View Full Version : PM9 back from Kahr
Got my PM9 back a few days ago from Kahr.
Bought a new PM9 in Jan and had FTF and FTB from the very beginning. I read advice on this forum and stuck with it, using different loads to break the gun in. Same problem after 200 rounds. Contacted KAHR, Dottie sent me a new recoil spring. It got worse, I could not shoot more than one round at a time before it failed to return to battery. Then, I could not get the slide to return at all. Contacted Dottie again, she said send it back in.
They replaced the slide, spring, and barrel. It has worked well this weekend, 100 rounds with no failures. If it continues to work I will have my faith restored in Kahr. Just wished they had better quality control, and didn't make their customers quality control officers.

First post!
I'm actually a little disappointed to read about all the PM9 QC issues. I know that the people who post problems do so a lot more often than the many who don't have problems, but it's still disheartening.
I own a MK9 that has been flawless out of the box and I was hoping to buy a PM9 to supplement it. Now my search is for a P9 Covert with DLC, which doesn't seem to even be an option.

I had all the same problems. Just got mine back today from Kahr and nothing is different. I posted about it if you're interested.

I bought a Ford Truck that is a POS!
Any mass produced items will have some lemons in the apple barrel. You never hear about the delicious apples, just the lemons. I just want to state that my apple, Kahr PM9, is absolutely delicious. It goes BANG every time I pull the tigger thingie!
Sorry to hear about your Kahr problems, but I still recommend them as a good 24/7 Carry Gun.
I had posted earlier on my first PM9 which was a complete lemon. The replacement Stephan sent back works better but still not 100%. I am hoping that shooting it more will make it perform better. Otherwise, back to Kahr factory it goes. I rarely see negative posts on the all-steel model Kahrs. Seems they have all kinks worked out of the steel models. They just can't perfect the polymer models.
Sorry to hear about your problems with the PM9, mine works perfectly.
Good luck getting the bugs worked out. Just remember, a Kahr ain't a Glock and lube it accordingly.

Howdy Pards:
From the getgo, my Kahr PM9 has operated flawlessly! By now more than 400+ rounds have been fired with different types of rounds etc without a hiccup! An additional 75 rounds were fired this past Saturday for permit qualifications. If my Kahr hiccuped 3 times or I missed 4 rounds center mass from various distances, my Kahr would not be blessed for permit use. It/I passed with flying colors!
I have tried to make my Kahr malfunction. I finally had a quasi failure due to with a very very very limp wrist hold!
Instead of oil, I use Microlon metal treatment (http://www.microlon.com/firearms.asp) which is very slick, doesn't attract dirt etc. I've haven't had any failures while using this product and use it on my CAS weapons.

I have taken my PM9 back to the range twice now. The first time shot 50 rounds with no problems. Took it home, cleaned, lubed, lubed, lubed and then lubed it.
Went to the range this morning. Had 2 FTFs. One on the second round I tried to shoot. Thought I might have been limp-wristing. Four or five mags later got another FTF. I had to manually advance the slide to feed the round. Then it worked OK for the next 20 rounds. So, thus far, about 110 rounds out of the 'serviced' PM9, and 2 FTF. I will keep at it, see if another 200 rounds smooths things out. But I am far from having confidence in this weapon for CCW use. I have had more FTFs with this gun than with all my other guns, and my AR, combined.
Is this going to be the way it is for the PM9?
Would an all metal Kahr be reliable? ^2
From what I hear the all-steel model Kahrs are more reliable than the polymer models. It's the choice of off-duty NYPD cops. And as you may or may not know the NYPD is very conservative in which off-duty guns they authorize. I have several LEO friends that own Kahr K-9 w/ zero malfunctions. You will also notice most negative posts on the Kahr are about the polymer models. When I sent in my Lemon PM9 to Kahr for swap I was given the option to trade it in for an all-steel Kahr. I turned them down and requested another PM9. In my opinion if I wanted to carry something that was 20 plus ounces I might as well carry my G-27. I will give my replacement PM9 more testing but so far I seem to get my share of FTF. Will keep everyone updated. I envy those w/ PM9 that work flawlessly.
UPDATE: I got a replacement PM9 for the "Lemon" PM9 I originally purchased. I now have 500 rds through the replacement PM9 and good news the gun works. During first 300 rounds it was having FTF on second round of both mags. But after putting another 200 rounds through all problems disappeared. I finally know how Michigun feels now.;+

vbkahr,
Is there any chance you got your recoil spring in backwards?
That could cause the symptoms you are having.
("Open" end goes toward the front of the gun.)
