Is 21# too heavy for standard use?

Also, would it cause problems if I ground the front extention off the mag floorplate? It digs into my pinky like no other.

Thanks for doing the tests, posting M2.

I'm wondering, have you or anybody else found a round that would NOT cycle reliably with a 21# spring?

"Not me.

When I bought my first Wolf springs from makarov.com I got a 19 and 21 pound to try out.
I figured maybe my target loads will function with the 19 and so I might settle on the 19 for all around use.
Maybe I'd use the 21 for practice with "hot" loads.

I was surprised that my target loads would function 100% with the 21 and the brass doesn't fly into the next county.
So after using the 21 in a number of Maks, with most of the available commercial and my reloaded ammo, I swapped all my Maks over to the heavy spring and gave the 19 to a friend.

I still don't recommend using the 21 pound spring, in a defense Mak, until it's been given a good range testing."

Not so far...21 spring has worked for me with everyround fired...All 5 of my Maks have #21 springs:) . Before the Chinese and Russian arrived I ordered direct from Wolff and they were waiting for the guns.;a

Oh, the magazine floor plate extension.
If you grind it off it will make it harder to pull the magazine out.
Grind it off and see how you like it. If it doesn't work out, magazines are easy to replace.

Don't grind it back too far. Pull the plate off and you'll see what you have to work with.

Ok thanks... I was planning on just getting rid of the large extention.

Also, anyone have the IWB Falco holster?

M2, any chance of you gathering up your wisdom and getting a sticky in here? A good FAQ

I took Buck's advice and put 21# springs in both of my Bulgies and haven't had a problem with either one. Bought them from www.makarov.com.

Don't let Buck fool you. He's done extensive testing of various ammos on various Maks. If Buck says it's so, you can take it to the bank.^c

I've got 21# springs in all my Maks and haven't had any problems regardless of ammo used or bullet weight.
