View Full Version : M9 Steyr
Just got my Steyr M9 from CDNN with 2 high caps and 1 10round mag. I read a write-up on the Steyr and it stated the M40 was first and the 9mm & 357Sig came later. Do they use the same M frame and if so can a 357Sig bbl be installed in a M9? Any info would be helpful.
frame is identical.
you can go from 40 to .357 w/ just a barell.
40 to 9 requires a different barell from a aftermarket company not just a stock m9 barell (outside diamater of 9 and 40 barrells different, but IGB makes essentially a thick walled 9 mm barell) and mags.
you can't go from 9mm to anything w/out also replacing the slide. Conversion kits w/ slde/barell are sold, but have been as much as a new gun in the past, but w/ the clearance m40's gone it might be worth it now.
the m9 slide has just a couple cuts different in it than a m40/m357 slide.

I've been on Auction Arms and a few other gun auction sites but haven't seen anything for sale other than new or use pistols.

I heard the Steyr can use S&W Sigma magazines. Is that true?

Yes...a new catch hole has to be drilled....several TFL and GT members have performed the magazine conversions. See GT thread below (note, other links contained in below thread):
Smith & Wesson Sigma 40 magazine conversion for m40??? (http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=361475)
sygma .40 mags can work.
sygma 9mm mags are too narrow.
both magazines are made by mecgar and the steyr an sygma 40's have the same bodies (baseplate has a little different shape, but that's cosmetic).
during the post ban sunset period was when everyone did these mods, as the supply of "LE ONLY" marked M mags didn't last long and it was a few months before there were enough in US.
really no need to now unless you have bunch of old sygma mags laying around neding new holes cut.
