I just bought a Colt 1911, not the 1991. It doesn't look like the current 1911 on their web site, so I'm wondering if anyone here can help identify the model. It has a full length guide rod, fixed 3 dot sights - but just the standard like on the 1991, Colt's beavertail grip safety, wood grips, aluminum trigget with 3 holes, flat mainspring housing, ambi safety, and that's all I can think of that will help identify it. Serial number is FR25***E.
I think it was sitting at the gun shop a while. While cleaning I found rust, particularly on the "second" magazine that was wrapped in plastic and on the hammer. That should be easy enough to take care of, though.
Did I get hosed for paying current prices for an older model? If the only difference is the sights, I don't really care. I prefer the ones on mine to the ones on the guns on their web site.
Also, what are the best mags out there now, and what is a good source?
ADDED: It also has front and rear cocking serrations.
How many here use shock buffs, and do you consider them a must?
