This is the fourth range report on my replacement PM9. My friends and I took our guns out yesterday for a torture test on a friendly bet that the PM9 could hang with the glocks. One had a G 26 and the other a G 27. The G 26 and I had two boxes each of WWB 115gr. FMJ(200 rounds apiece)and the G 27 had four boxes of Federal 165gr. FMJ(200 rounds). The objective was to fire 7 rounds at a time at the steel plates placed 10 yards out. Each hit would be scored as one point. If your gun fails to go bang irregardless of the reason(bad rack, bad round, FTE, FTB, FTF) you would have to quit the game and take the score at that point on. The reason for this is to give us a little pressure on a gun that we bet our lives on. Although I was anxious to play I will have to admit I was a little bit scared to lose my money and my pride. The G 27 and G 26 were both a few years old with thousands of rounds through them, and pyschologically my buddies had me whipped as I had always been outgunned by them when it came to pulling our CCW. Also I have not cleaned the gun since testing the WWB 147gr. JHPs which was over 100 rounds, which I opted not to because I wanted to see how finicky this gun was. Nevertheless pride and curiousity kept me moving forward.
The mountains were thundering as 600 rounds continuously sounded off. The guns probably had no more than 5 to 6 minutes to cool off, but contrary to popular belief, they showed or displayed no ill effect. None of the guns had a failure, meaning they all fed 200 rounds with 100% reliability:cool: At the end of it all the PM9 scored 134 out of 200 placing it second to the G26 which scored 165. The G27 scored 92 out 200. Regardless of the score I was impressed with the reliability of all guns, but damned was I proud of my now CCW PM9:)
One interesting thing we noticed. After our competition we took turns shooting each others guns. Both Glock buddies managed to accidently push the mag release on the PM9 causing failures. We attribute this to the fact that the Glocks have a fatter grip. I do not have this problem as my hands are smaller and thus the PM9 fits me perfectly. The Glocks grips are so fat that I have to adjust my grip to where the knuckel of my thumb is under the backstrap causing my knuckle to bleed.
To all those who have bad PM9's I encourage you to quest for a good one as they are truly sweet guns.
