Polishing an MK9

I just picked up an MK9 and it has the usual marks on the barrel where due to normal use, it has worn off the original matte finish. Is there a good way I can just polish the rest of this original finish off, leaving myself with a bright shiny barrel? I think it would look a lot better. It might also look neat to polish up the slide stop in the same manner...anyone ever tried this?
