View Full Version : Fired S40 with a M357 Barrel Installed
I fired 50 rounds of WWB .357 Sig ammo purchased from Wallyworld today.
Results? No malfunctions at all; the WWB was a very accurate round through the gun/barrel combo; but.....one round discharged but sounded a little different than the other discharged rounds. I later discovered why...well kind of sort of...that round's primer was pierced. I could clearly see the anvil of the primer.
Despite that, the gun handled the round with no problems.
I may purchase some hotter ammo and continue firing my converted "S357".....anyone else try this combination out?

So how did you get the barrel into the S?
I tried and tried to put my M40 barrel in my S40 but it was too thick to go through the front of the slide at an angle (it wouldn't drop in straight until the chamber cleared the breech).
I'd love to have an M40 barrel threaded for a suppressor and drop it in my S40 :D

Interesting. My M9 barrel fits my S9 perfectly. Never fired it that way, but the thought of a threaded M9 barrel + supressor for the S9 is tasty indeed.
I guess the extra thickness (diameter?) of the .40 caliber barrel prevents the swapping between M40 & S40. Who da thunk it?
Zundfolge....I inserted the barrel the same as if it were the OEM barrel.....it fit in with no problems. One of my M40 barrels fits inside of my S40 as well with no problems either.....maybe your barrel and/or S40 slide are slightly out of spec? Or maybe my S40 slide is out of spec???
If I can squeeze out at least 200 FTE/FTF-free (good SD) rounds through the S40 gun/M357 barrel combo, I might make it a permanent marriage.

Well to be fair, if I forced it I think I might be able to get my M40 barrel into my S40 ... not sure how easy it would come back out and I don't want to bugger things up.
However, I bet that if the end of the barrel where turned and threaded it would be small enough to fit in the S40 slide ... just don't have the funds to experiment with that :P
(Of course I believe that IGB sells threaded barrels for Steyrs)
Has anyone tried cutting and crowning an M357 barrel and installing it in an S40 for a 10 rd 357 compact for CCW?
Well,it was early AM when I posted this,I guess I should've probably asked if the barrels are the same length???;Q

I was thinking about doing this by purchasing an Impulse Gun Barrels-made or factory Steyr M357 barrel and cutting it down......

.....but the "M" barrel pokes out of the shorter "S" slide by about an inch or so...no biggie.

...which would make it perfect for getting threaded for accessories...;)
Actually,I was thinking of having the "M" barrel cut down to the same length as the "S" barrel for CCW use...;f
Does anyone have sources for the M357 barrels?Used would be preferred...;f
