View Full Version : Kahr Extra Mags

I bought a PM9 - I've a 150 rounds through it with some failures to feed. I will shoot more.
However, my question is a good source for extra mags. I would like some more 6 rounders. I found, BTW, that the 7 round was more likely to jam and it seems that the top round is held rather loosely in it, esp. when in a mag holder.
Thanks
Glenn,
I too have been experiencing problems with the magazines for my MK9. The magazine lips do not retain the rounds. One of the cheapest sources for Kahr magazines I have found on line is: https://www.dnrsports.net/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=DSC&Category_Code=magazineskam
I have not purchased from them yet but I will probably do so if Kahr does not resolve the probelms with the magazines I already have.

Has anyone found additional distributors that sell Kahr factory mags, especially PM9 mags?

I've got a .40 Covert which uses MK40 mags. I, literally, just bit the bullet & bought two more mags (I like to switch mine out every few months to help preserve the springs)straight from Kahr. It used what little space I had left on my credit card...dang they're expensive little suckers!
All the non-Kahr Co. mags I kept finding looked like junk. I made that mistake with my Ruger P95, more than once. If you find a distributor that sells quality mags, then good for you. But don't trust your life to knockoffs that may not work when you need them to.

Exactly. Knockoffs are not acceptable. But straight from Kahr they are pricey. I just figured there was a third party selling factory mags somewhere for a reasonable price.

I usually just keep my eye out here in GT’s own “for sale” forums, on www.auctionarms.com & on www.gunbroker.com… I’ve never paid more then $25 for a NIB Kahr mag doing it like this. ^c

On-Point Firearms in St. Pete, FL sells Kahr mags on the cheap.
An update on my mag issues. I called Kahr and was told that the problem has to do with the followers. New followers have been sent. I'll report back after installing them.

Will this mag fit the Kahr PM9? Is this a decent price?

Dealing with www.dnrsports.com-----I won an auction for a 'seven shot, factory, kt40, k720' magazine. I got it for a great price. I won the auction on 30 June. To make a long story short, I don't have the magazine. I said they again needed my address. They said they needed the exact model of gun. I told them. They say the magazine I ordered won't fit my gun (P40). Kahr says it will. I've tried to tell them to just send the magazine that I won, if it doesn't fit, its my fault. Still, no magazine.
I'm not comfortable dealing with them.

Supposedly the metal followers are the ones that dump the rounds. The plastic ones are supposed to cure the problem. However my plastic followers for my MK9 have always dumped rounds. I emailed Kahr customer service and they also said they would send me new followers. Well when I got the followers they are the exact same as the plastic ones which are already in my mags. My gun was made in early 2004.
I don't think there is anything else they can do, so I just said I'll try the new ones for awhile. ;Q I think the big problem is that the feed lips on the end of the magazine are not long or tight enough. I also mentioned to customer service that a rubber follower would probably be better in this respect then a metal or plastic one. The response was pretty much 'hmmm ok'...
Anyways the Kahr mags loosing rounds is a common issue and I think they really need to work on fixing that. I may just have to try some Pro-mags out. I know they've come a long way in the past couple years.

They have a pretty poor record and I try to avoid them. Back before I knew who they were I've seen a couple of guns that I bid on were later returned for being broken or mis-represented, including a Delta Elite that was advertised as mint, but the guy said was scratched/trashed. I don't think the person putting them up for sale has a clue. Probably just barely a step above Wal-mart.

They finally sent a magazine. But it was a six round mag and not the seven rounder that I bid on and won. It went back the next day-and I called Kahr and ordered a seven round mag.

Coffindodger,
All my magazine problems with my MK9 went away when I replaced the metal followers with the plastic ones (mine came with one of each). I've never had a lost round, my problem was that the metal followers did not always lock the slide back onan empty magazine.
The 40 and 9mm magazines are almost indistinguishable. The 40s actually say 40 on them (though on the MK40/PM40 extended round magazines it's part way under the extended plastic end cap.
The 40 followers have a squarish slide lock pin, while the 9mm magazine followers have a round pin.
I'm wondering if a 40 magazine will fit in a 9 and if that would cause some "lost rounds" due to wider lips... I had 9mms sent to me by mistake instead of 40s, I wonder if the reverse has ever happened...
Best,
I traced my 7-rounder problem to my mag catch. They have redesigned it with a bigger piece of metal and better engagement. I may have posted a scan of them side by side earlier, or at least I intended to. I got one free from Dot.

Good call pbass! ^c
Ordered some 6 rd mags from Onpoint and got them in 3 days later. New Kahr mags, good price, great service.
Just FYI, www.dnrsports.com(.net) DOES send factory Kahr mags.
They just take forever.
I ordered a pair of P9/CW9 7 round magazines on February 23rd after I bought a CW9 on the 22nd.
"Sure, no problem"
Called 7 days later, as my card wasn't chared yet.
"Well, they're not in stock - we only have one magazine"
Why didn't they TELL me this when I ORDERED THE MAGAZINES!?!
14 days after I ordered, I call back.
"Would you like us to send you the one magazine we DO have? We're waiting until we can get a second to ship your whole order"
If I'd known they had one they could send right away... I would have ordered just the one mag and gotten it immediately. So I expect to be seeing my magazine around day 21 or so.
41 days after I placed the order, it showed up on my doorstep.
By all means, order from D&R Sports. I have nothing but great things to say about them, and will continue to order all of my gear from them a month and a half before I need it.
I believe Kahr must be behind in producing extra mags. I ordered 8 round mags for my CW9. As reported on another thread, mucho failures to feed.
Kahr first told me that the CW9 would not take the 8 round mag. I cut and pasted their web site and sent it to them showing where they listed the CW9 under the 8 round mag. They then told me that I should load it with only seven rounds, that my little finger on the extended mag was causing the problem, but with one less round it would be a good seven round mag. Of course, if I wanted a seven round mag, I would have just ordered it.
Anyway, they authorized a return, which I sent in. It has now been more than a month and I still have not seen my two replacement seven round mags. If the factory does not have them, I doubt vendors do!
I agree, and I should have made my "D&R is horrible" post a little clearer:
They definitely weren't at fault for forgetting to order the magazines. My problem with them was their horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE communication during the whole ordeal.

I picked up a spare mag for my CW9 at Sportsmans Warehouse last week. Kinda surprised they had them in stock, but hey, I wasn't gonna complain, ya know? Beats waiting on it to be delivered.
How much was it?
I've got a Sportsman's Warehouse here in town... hmm...

It was about 28-29$ if I recall correctly.
A follow up from my April 15 post: The replacements mags arrived on April 25th.

Thanks. One more reason to finally get out to Sportsman's Warehouse. BassPro is half the drive, so I usually go there.

For me, the prob was the pinkie pressing on the mag extension, which meant the mag release wasn't holding the mags in firmly enough. I called Dot and she said yes, there was a new version of the mag release. Once I pried out the old and jammed in the new, my VA-series PM9 (barrel recall already done) went to 100% reliability. I don't know if you have the old mag release but it sounds identical to the prob I had. Write or call Dot for the new mag release (free) anyway. You won't know if you had the old or new one until you compare them, but hey, what can you lose? PS, I only buy factory mags. They are ALL 100% now that the release problem is fixed.

www.onpointsupply.com just got some 6 round flush fit for the MK9. Any one has comments on their service?
I'm interested too ... I am going to start using my PM9 for IDPA and I need more mags. Is OnPoint any good? $25 for a 6rd PM9 mag.
Well I guess I will be the guinea pig. I placed an order last nite for 3 PM9 mags and a Fobus paddle C21B for the PM9. We'll see how it goes!:scared:

They have really good service, although your orders have to be $50 or more. I received emails throught out the shiiping process. $25 for those mags are a great price. I received my mags already, but haven't had the time to test them out.

Please post how that holster works out.
I called Fobus and emailed Fobus, got two different answers
for that gun. One was c21b or what ever you said, the other was a
KA-1, yours is supposed to be adjustable for gun fit, let us know.
Will do. I am conforted by the fact that I saw a pic of a PM9 in a C21B somewhere on the 'net. It was not Fobus's website, it was somewhere else.
Anyhoo, the pic shows that the C21B fit the PM9 very well, it just did not totally cover the triggerguard. The space in the triggerguard between the frame and the trigger was a bit open; the trigger itself was covered completely. While this may be an issue (as I intend to use the holster in IDPA competition) I'm hoping it won't be such a big deal.
That, and I don't intend to use the Fobus for carry. I already have a Kramer pocket holster for that duty.
Great!!
If you find that picture post that site too.
Thanks
If you're looking to use a Fobus for carry, please think twice.
I'd hate to gen involved in an attempted gun-grab when I know the holster can be physically torn off of my belt with relative ease.
Retention is about more than the holster. I lent out a tape by Jim Lindell on handgun retention. Can't remember the exact title but it's worth looking for.
I got two spare 6 rd mags from Cheaper Than Dirt (www.cheaperthandirt.com) they were about $27 each.
Currently they list them for $29.25, but they are backordered. These are actual Kahr mags, not third party.

Update: I tried the mags over the weekend. I do not have any complaints. Exactly what I wanted.

Be careful with Onpointfirearms.com. My experience they are not reputable people with which to deal. I would not trust them even to just buy mags. Gunbroker has been my best source for Kahr mags.
Well, they just sent me the shipping confirmation today. I will check out the results on Saturday (I got the mags shipped to my parents's address because I'm never at home to receive packages). Keeping my fingers crossed.
Update #1: my onpointfirearms.com order arrived and it was fine. :) I haven't had a chance to try out the PM9 mags but they appear to be standard factory mags.
Update #2: the Fobus C21BH holster does indeed fit the Kahr PM9. That said, because the C21BH is designed primarily for the 1911 5" gun, there is a significant portion of the holster that is "empty" space. I'd say around 2" of "empty" space.
The holster also does not completely cover the triggerguard, but it does cover the trigger itself.
Here are some pics:

While I have not used the KA-1 holster, I would say that the C21BH works fairly well for the PM9. It is a bonus if you have a 5" 1911, because then you can use one holster for both guns. But if you mind the extra empty space, then go with the KA-1 (although again, I have not tried the KA-1).

In my humble opinion you have a wrong holster for a PM pistol The C21BH as you noted is for 4-5 inch bbl guns. You should have ordered C21B which is a belt-slide style holster and it would fit your PM9 perfectly without any dead space whatsoever.
I have both Fobus holsters for my MK9 and both work well although the KA-1 (used to be K-40) was very tight at first and has no adjustment and the C21B has a tension adjustable screw.

Thanks -- it's no biggie to me, seeing as the Fobus is only going to be used for IDPA. I normally use a Kramer pocket holster so the Fobus is just to keep me IDPA-legal. And, while I don't have a 1911 (yet), I can always save this holster for when I do get one.
Good tip on the KA-1 ... seems to be the ticket for an exact fit to the PM9.

But I would think you'd want to make use of all that "draw practice" you get from the holster with the IDPA games ! ! ! That's a lot of vakuable practice going to waste ! ! ! !

I agree but IDPA rules are what's gonna hold me back, unless this new club allows me to use pocket carry.
IDPA rules say no holsters in front of your centerline, which means pocket holsters are out. Now to be sure, there is no competitive advantage to having a pocket holster so my "old" IDPA clubs would allow me to draw my M342 from my pocket holster. That said, I am going to be going to a "new" IDPA club and they might not see it the same way. So I have the Fobus as a backup.
PS put about 50-100 rounds through the three new PM9 mags that I got from Onpoint. No problems whatsoever.
