I have a Linksys BEFSX41 that crashed during a firmware update. Now it is a paperweight.

I tried the reset button on the back with no luck.

Any ideas on how to get it back up and running?

Try resetting factory settings and use Linksys BEFSX41-TFTP.exe to upgrade the firmware.

The firmware upgrade failed, and/or the Diag LED is flashing. The upgrade could have failed for a number of reasons. Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware and/or make the Diag LED stop flashing:

A. If the firmware upgrade failed, use the TFTP program (it was downloaded along with the firmware). Open the pdf that was downloaded along with the firmware and TFTP program, and follow the pdf’s instructions.

B. Set a static IP address on the PC. Use the following IP address settings for the computer you are using:

IP Address: 192.168.1.50 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1

C. Perform the upgrade using the TFTP program or the Adapter’s web-based utility through its Help tab.

I cannot get it to reset. The only file that came with the download was befsx41_v1.50.18_code%2C0.bin

I'm at a loss.

After unzipping the firmware files, one of them will be called TFTP.EXE. Double click on it.

. When the “Upgrade Firmware” window opens, you will have three prompts. The “Server” field is for the IP address of your router; by default this would be 192.168.1.1.

. Enter the routers password into the “Password” field; by default the password is admin.

. Browse for the file in the Firmware Upgrade utility program by clicking on the button next to file with the '…' symbol on it. Look for the file named 'code.bin' in the folder where the firmware files were extracted to.

. Highlight the code.bin file and click on the Open button to direct the TFTP loader program to put that file into the "File" box.

. The full path should be displayed [example: c:\linksys\code.bin].

. Click on the Upgrade button to begin the upgrade process.

. The upgrade should take about 1 minute, and you will be prompted after the upgrade is complete and successful.

you are still having troubles, contact Linksys Technical Support.

You can call Linksys tech support at 800-326-7114 and register yourself and they will give you a case number. Presumably they will call or e-mail.
