View Full Version : Kimber Tacical Ultra Questions
How are these on reliability? I have a Kimber Tactical Custom and love it. I wanted something a little smaller and was thinking about these? Any suggestions?
And are the mags interchangable? I have some Wilson 47d mags that I love.
You might want to perform a search on those pistols. There have been some unhappy people posting about Ultra's. Search at 1911forum also.
my ultra carry(3 inch )is as if not more reliable than my other 1911s.the ejection port is milled out fore and aft then lowered by shaving the bottom.this keeps the window for ejection,ie time,to a maximum.so in reality and practice as long as its 5 inch brothers.
Kimber the name.o yes did i tell you there is no,ZERO,movment in my slide.Kimber makes good stuff period.the reason theirs alot of compaints is cause they sell a heck of alot of 1911s!

they sell a heck of a lot of 1911's because of huge $$$$ invested on advertising. mainly towards the unknowledgeable gun owner....

It sure is funny that Smith sells a lot of 1911s and Springfield sells a lot of 1911s, and nobody has the sheer volume of complaints that series II Kimbers seem to generate. Oh that's right, first you have to "break em in" with 500 rounds because they are soooo tightly precision made! And they say advertising money is a waste.;a

i dont "hate" kimbers totally. but could spend my $$ on a better product.
this isnt the "whole" story. but if you loot at what the "top" pistol smiths are using for base guns, its rarely kimber.
usually, springfield/colt.
unless its a custom nm frame job using caspian parts.

AGLOCKER and I have similar experiences with Kimbers. In fact I believe we were having trouble at the same time. This sums it up.
1.) First Kimber Ultra carry stainless. External extractor doesn't work. Had to pay shipping first time. Told the gun was fine. Shoot more rounds, oil more. Still wouldn't work. Replaced extractor. Still wouldn't extract. Barrel out of spec. Replaced barrel. Night sight burnt out. Frame cracks at 1900 rounds. Raised hell with Kimber got new Ultra Carry.
2.) Second gun. Bad extractor (seeing a theme here?), recoil rod breaks, frame cracks at 1200 rounds. Waited six weeks to get gun back, guaranteed gun works. Came back with multiple scratches. Wouldn't accept gun.
3.) Kimber agrees to trade for a 4" Stainless Compact. It's not Aluminum so frame can't break. Promise me and my gun dealer it will work. Got gun. Worked for 5 mags then old failures to extract. Request new extractor. Still doesn't work. Trade for an H&K Sainless Compact. H&K works first time everytime.
Posted on Kimber section of 1911 forum regarding my problems. Got some support. Also the "Kimber Mafia" ove there accused me of Limp wristing, not oiling right, being unfamiliar with 1911's, being a Kimber basher, sold more 1911's so more problems, blah, blah, blah...
Kimbers has way to many problems. Five guys at my range have had serious issues with their Kimbers. Some have had excellent guns. If they work they are good guns. But it is definately hit or miss.
And BTW I have a SA 1911 Compact with thousands of rounds through it. And a S&W 1911Sc that has been perfect from day one. So I have some familiarity with 1911's. Oh yes. Before I traded the gun I got a private warning form the moderator at the Kimber forum accusing me of having a hidden agenda by writing so many negative things about Kimbers. He threatened to throw me off. Buy a Kimber if you want. If you get a good one they are great guns. If not good luck. You'll need it. True story.
Are the mags interchangable? I have some Wilson Combat 47DAB mags. Here is a pic...http://www.wilsoncombat.com/images/product/47DAB.jpg
Are they compatible with the Kimber Tactical Ultras?
