I'm starting to kick around the idea of getting a Vertec 92, and wanted to ask you Beretta guys a few questions.

First of all, what is your overall impression of the Vertec 92FS compared to a third generation Glock 17?

Second, does anyone make any aftermarket grips for this weapon? I had a 96 a few years ago with Hogue wrap-around grips with finger grooves, and it just felt great in my hand. Does that same grip fit the Vertec?

Last is the question of night sights. Who makes night sights for this weapon, and how much do they cost?

Any other comments you guys have would be appreciated. I'm considering switching to the Vertec as a service weapon instead of my Glock 22.

I think it's the best fitting double stack Auto for people with small mitts. Here's more info

I love my Vertec. It's a 92fs in stainless. It's only had one failure in over 6000 rounds, and that was due to an improperly sized reload that was too big to fit in the chamber. Nothing you can do about that.

It is a very comfortable gun to hold onto for anyone with any sized hands. I believe you can get grips from Hogue now, but I wouldn't. They do use a different grip than the standard 92fs.

I would the Elite 1a if I had it to do over again. That model has the Vertec frame with the heavier Brigadier slide, and is a G model so it has a decocker instead of the safety. Sights for any Beretta Brigadier will work on the Vertec, so you can get Mepro's or Trijicons. Prices vary, but a law enforcement discount should put them around $70.

Ultimately, the Glock will last forever and the Beretta won't. A Beretta 92 (which includes the Vertec) should last tens of thousands of rounds though, with proper service and regular spring and locking block replacement.

I have a 92G Vertec. I wasn't planning on a Vertec style grip, but the 92G-SD was just too pricey for me and I wanted a decocker model. Pics of my gun are here: http://users.adelphia.net/~navy87guy/beretta92g.html

I've heard that you can order the Hogue-style grips from Beretta, but they run $50+ a set. I bought a standard 92FS pair and trimmed the backside to fit the Vertec profile. It took about 10 minutes with a pair of really big scissors from IKEA. I need to touch up the back with a Dremel to smooth out the rubber, but for $15 I'm very happy. They give the gun a very nice feel.

As far as sights, mine came with Trijicon night sights from the factory. Check around with the usual sources (CTD, Brownell's, etc.) for the best prices. I'm sure that all the standard NS makers offer 92 versions.

I did have the trigger polished and replaced the trigger spring and main spring with a lighter one. That improved the trigger action immensely. It's been very accurate and completely reliable. It's been so good that I'm using it for my USPSA production gun now.

Hope this helps,

Jim

I don't know about the Elite 1A but there is a specific model for night sights for the regular Vertec, check Trijicon (http://www.trijicon.com/user/parts/parts_new.cfm?categoryID=7), codes are different for the Vertec only specific Vertec sights will fit.

I know Taurus's PT 92(manufacturing machines, blueprints etc.) was more or less sold to them by Beretta. But looks like beretta was at least inspired by the evolved PT 92 VERTGRIP???
