Question on Variants

I will eventually have to convert my HK USP Compact to either Variant 2 or 4 since I am left handed.

Does anyone have a Variant 4? How does it work? It just decocks the gun right? Does it put it back into single action or once your decock the lever moves back to its original position?

Are any of these varants "better" than the others? ie, is 2 better than 4, or vice versa?

variant 4 is SIGsauer style. meaning, you rack the slide, you get single action. there is no 'safe' postion. if you decock the weapon, it will be in double action mode. once it is fired and the slide cycles, it will be in single action.

variant 2 is the same as variant 1, but the lever is on the right side of the gun.

which one is better depends on how you carry. if you want to carry cocked and locked, then variant 4 would be a bad choice since it does not allow you to do this.

if you want a manual safety, variant 4 is also not the right choice.
