UPDATED: 3:03 pm EST July 18, 2005
INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indiana veteran's Medal of Honor was found Monday after it was stolen from a car trunk Thursday.
Police have charged Gaetano Barbieri, 35, with theft and receiving stolen property in connection with the medal's disappearance.
Divers recovered Sammy Davis' missing medal Monday morning, police sources who declined to be named said.
A search had been under way since Friday of last week, when Davis' medal was reported missing.
Davis, a retired Army sergeant, received the prestigious honor from President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 for his service in Vietnam. He was credited with saving three men during a fierce battle.
Davis is a Mooresville native and now lives in Illinois.

Local police just announced they are going to return the medal in a ceremony Friday. I'm glad he got it back, I really didn't think he would. I figured it was ditched in a trash can and would get taken to the dump before anyone realized it.
It all worked out in the end though...
Best wishes
