So I'm finally going to break down and buy a wireless router. I have been using an ad-hoc network.

Here is where I need a little help. I found an inexpensive D-Link router on tigerdirect. Will the linksys PCI card (WMP 11) in my desktop be compatible w/ a D-Link router? I dont have any worries about the card in my laptop, its a Orinoco and I haven't had any problems w/ it commecting to various types of routers.

I have a linksys PCI card and a d-link router and have no problems.

Most vendors comply to one version of CCX (wireless standards) or another and most are downward compatable. Just be sure the PC card is the same radio type (or compatable) with the AP (Access Point). E.g.:

802.11B PC card will work with 802.11B or G AP
802.11G PC card will work with 802.11B or G AP
802.11A PC card will work with 802.11A only
802.11 ABG card will work with Any
