View Full Version : Failure To Feed

I have had my first failure to feed problem and would welcome any intelligent input.
The pistol is a Glock 20 (completely stock) bought new 7 months ago.
I have shot many different types and brands of ammo without any problem, until today.
I bought a box of my preferred brand of ammo, but with a heavier and slower bullet. I went with a 180 gr. JHP. I started off with 13 rounds in my mag which can hold 15.
On the second shot it failed to feed the next round properly. (No, I was not limpwristing). The bullet was at about a 30 degree angle with the nose pointing to the left and of course was holding the slide back.
I removed the round and shot four more with no problem.
I know this is not much info to work with, but does anyone care to comment?

Maybe you need new mag springs. Hope this helps.;c

The magazine has been used only 3 times ( I have several) and it has always been stored unloaded. Otherwise I would have thought the same.
In addition, it has never had a problem with "other" 180 gr. ammo.

I bought my 20 new 3 month's ago. It did the exact same thing. One or 2 rounds out of every mag would do just what you said. With 10 round mags mine has 0 problems. My mags are on their way to Glock now, with photo's of the jams. I have heard other's with this problem too. Ill see what Glock has to say.

If this happened once, maybe its just an anomoly. I only use 180-200 gr bullets in my g20 (if I want to use light bullets I can use a 9mm or a 40, the 10mm really shines in it ability to move a heavy bullet fast)and have never had a problem with the 15 round mags.

See if your problems are similar to these:

Full caps or 10 rounders?

Here are a few things to consider:
1. Magazine not properly inserted
2. Underpowered ammunition
3. Dirty magazine
4. Weak magazine spring
5. Dirty chamber
6. Tight extractor
7. Shooting with an unlocked wrist
8. Deformed magazine
9. Weak recoil magazine
I would suggest taking it to a Certified Glock Armorer to have it checked out properly.

I had some time to go shooting today and it looks as though the one failure to feed may have been (hopefully) a one-time event.
As meticulous as I am about keeping my pistol super clean, being nearly new and using top quality ammo, needless to say I was not happy with any kind of malfunction.
Today, I shot several of the same ammo that I was using when I had the feed problem over a week ago.
I shot slow and then shot as fast as I possibly could and had no problem either way. The G20 ate em as fast as I could feed it.
Ya just gotta love the 10mm. Af friend of mine who thinks he is a know-it-all regarding guns, once ask me "why would you want a 10mm?"
My response was "Why would you not want a 10mm?"
So sad there are still so many people ignorant about ammo availability and think the 10mm is too much for self defense.
I am sure 99% of anyone reading the 10-Ring know you can buy ammo that is comparable to the power of a common .40, or go with the best like DoubleTap and others for full power.
Like some say, "The 10mm; either you got it, or you don't get it".
On another note, one guy said to me the other day, "gee, your truck looks kind of odd having a Jesus bumper sticker on one side and a Glock sticker on the other side". I replied "yeah, speak softly and carry a big Glock I always say..."
Him and I don't vote for the same political party at election time either. Go figure, huh?
Long live the 10
