View Full Version : Group Buy: 10mm CZ-97B
Okay, calm down; there's no such beast...yet. Hopefully CZ will see a large enough demand for this handgun and begin to produce it. With the recent acquisition of Dan Wesson (a producer of 10mm pistols), a CZ-97B in 10mm is a little closer to reality.
Sound off!
I'll purchase 2 in stainless steel the day they're available.

In the meantime, grab a Tanfolio Witness and polish it up and you've got a poorman's CZ. :)

I'd buy one in heartbeat.............. if they get it CA approved, in this socialist state..... must leave
How much, and what mag capacity?
that looks exactly like a Witness. is it?
Actually, the Witness is a CZ clone. The CZ is a little more rugged and polished.
As for capacity, 15+1. The MSRP for a .45 CZ-97B is $663.
C-Note,
I'll take one of each(stainlees and blued), but first we've got to get CZ to take notice. On second thought, I don't care what they are, stainless or blued, just get CZ to "get in the game" with a 10mm!!!!!
bambihunter & susan28,
The Tan Witness(never, ever call it an EAA! They may import and market it, but that's about it) feels in the hand and has the general appearance of a CZ, but that's about where it stops. QC is sometimes chancy on a Witmess(especially the Compact 10mm) and EAA's joke of CS doesn't encourage the "good faith" understanding that should be there for a lemon if one is experienced.
Come on CZ, if you produce it, we WILL BUY IT!!!!!
I linked the image above directly from CZ's web server. Every time someone views this thread, their server gets hit. Hopefully, someone at CZ will wonder why they're serving up images to Glock Talk and pay us a visit.
yes, well the reason i asked is that the Witness is reputed not to have a very long service life with hot 10mm loads and i'm a "buy it once and keep it forever" type.. i don't sell my guns and i don't wanna buy one i'll have to replace, but the Witness looks really comfy to hold and nice to carry and i wouldn't mind checking one out if there was a nice "bullet proof" version..
C-Note: lauderdale huh? i shoot at Revere sometimes.. i'm the crazy redhead with the G20 and the five-seven
.... on my post, susan28. My apologies if the post was on the strong side. Actually, the full size 10mm Tan Witness has somewhat higher reliability quotient than that of the Compact Witness. Some earlier large framed Witness pistols did have a slide cracking history and a few also experienced cracked frames(at the slide stop hole). Personally, I know fellow shooters that had .38 Super and .45 ACP full size Witness pistols that experienced the cracked slide, though in all honesty, EAA did replace the slides with no questions asked(though, one shooter did have "fun" when talking to EAA's "gunsmith").
The most frequently performed operation on newly purchased Witness 10mm pistols, is to replace the weak factory recoil spring with a Wolff 20# or 22# version.
C-Note,
Nice touch on the linking to CZ's server. Perhaps it'll act like a burr under the saddle and prod them to "take a look", as you put it. We can only hope!!!

I live about 10 minutes from Revere and I shoot there once or twice a month. Any other good ranges in the area that you can recommend?

i actually drive all the way down from palm beach because they treat me right and because palm beach county ranges won't let you shoot non-range-bought ammo, and i like to bring my Double Tap.
i hooked up with revere from Gary Napolitano, whom i credit with turning me onto the 10mm calibre with his extensive 10mm info site. he let me come down there and try it out in 2 of his guns to see what i thought (what i thought was that his 1911 was way more manageable than the G20, but i decided to get one of each :)) and i ended up just kinda digging the people there.
if you email Gary (gnappi@earthlink.net) he can give you the skinny on Broward ranges. i know there's a nice outdoor one there i'd like to try sometime.

yep that's the one, thanks C-Note.. or should i say CZ-Note..
hey susan [28] i have a fullsized witness in 10mm, needs a stronger spring for doubletap/my loads but it feels FINE to me to shoot - controls are in the correct places and it is fun - mine has been reliable
heyyyy JW [P] :) what i've heard is more of a longevity issue than a reliability one, like the frames just weren't meant for the energy level, although i'm sure proper springs and such would help that somewhat.
...I'd buy one if CZ made 'em!

+1 here, a high polish blue sounds nice compared my stainless Smiths, but then again, a high capacity stainless steel one sounds pretty good too, may need one of each.

It would be wonderful if we could goad CZ into the 10mm market! I'm in for a cash-on-the-barrel purchase the minute they're available.
Until then, a person really should try a Witless before discounting them entirely. EAA has done a lot of damage to Tanfoglio's reputation as their sole US distributor. None of the high grade guns seem to make it across the Atlantic, and EAA is "relationship-challenged" when it comes to customer service.
That being said, I own one cz97 and several witlesses. I fully disassembled the 97 and a witness .45 and compared all the innards. The witness actually seemed to be as well made as the CZ. When Tanfoglio reverse-engineered the CZ they simplified some of the assembly and made the grip a little skinnier. Seems to fit my hand better than my 97.
Now if Tan could just figure out how to finish the outside I'd be happy.

The CZ-97B’s are already using Witness .45 ACP magazines. All you may need is someone to make an aftermarket 10mm barrel, a replacement SS guild rod, 22 lbs recoil spring and the Witness 10mm magazines.
I could be off, but I think that is all you would need to convert a CZ-97B.

Unfortunatly, that .45" breechface and extractor brings that project to a screeching halt! ;)

you could have a "45-10" conversion barrel made and switch out the extractor as with the current "G20/21L" projects being done by a few on this forum (the originator of the project, Colorad0Glocker, suggests leaving the extactor alone, but this may not be the case with the CZ), though since the breechface remained the same it wouldn't technically be a "10mm CZ-97B" ..

You might need to check about all the .45 to 10MM conversions that Glock owners have done. Besides .40 to 9MM conversions.
Don't hear much screeching, now do you? ;)
Looks like susan28 types faster than I.
I've seen them, but it seems they got lucky that there is a nice ramp to guide the cartridge into the chamber and the round indexes off the extractor. I'm not so certain this will be the case with the CZ.

Count me in for a CZ-97B in 10mm!!!
I already have a Tanfoglio Witness 10mm (which has been flawless) and a CZ SP-01, so the CZ-97B in 10mm is the logical next choice.
