View Full Version : Glock 19 17 or 26
I currently already have a Glock 19 and I love it. It is my daily carry gun.
I have worked a TON of Overtime lately and I get to have a new GLock for my efforts!
Now, I need someone to talk me into which one. I am considering a second G19. I am also considering a G17 or a G26.
I know I want it to be in 9mm, and Im a big fellow, so I can easily carry any of the 3.
Im leaning towards a G17. Eventually I will have one of each of the 9mms.
But which one do I get this time?
I'd say the 34, its like a 17, but better;)

Greetings,
I respectfully disagree. I've rented a G34 and put about 150 rounds through one. I loved the extended sight radius and lightened trigger, but, I forgot which GT member I'm quoting here, but it felt like running a Corvette on 6 cyclinders instead of the full 8. The recoil was almost too light. Try one out before you buy. I just picked up a G17 that I traded for today and can't wait to get to the rnage with it. I never thought I would be Glock fan, but slowly, I'm really starting to love these pistols.

Pick the following and you can't go wrong. Just got the G17 out of layaway. My wife paid the balance.

Agreement is not required :)
IMHO, the differences between the G19 and G17 are slight. The G34 is a G17 with a longer barrel and sight radius, as well as the extended controls and better trigger right out of the box. If the G19 is for carry, anything bigger would be for range shooting, where I personally think the 34 is better than the 17. It does indeed suck up some of the recoil, which I like.
Like I said, IMHO...
the best bet is the rent all three (26, 17, 34) and see which you like best.
I'd suggest going with the 34 as well :)

Depends a lot on what you're going to do with it. You already have one G19. If you CCW, the G26 should be a no-brainer. I have a G17 and G26. The G17 is devoted to the range, and home protection in the Summer. It's fine for CCW in the cooler months as well, but I prefer the G26 for that role in the heat of the Summer. With a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster, I can take it anywhere I need to go. That, and an MK-6. You just never know when you might run across a member of the fan club.

*wiping tears from my eyes* That is so beautiful! I am also in the market for either a 17, 19, or 34, so I feel your pain!

if you can easily carry all three, then i think you should carry a 17 all the time instead of the 19. you get more ammo and more muzzle velocity and i also believe the 17 grip is far more comfortable for two handed shooting. in my limited experience with my guns, the g17 has been more reliable as well.
Until this last weekend I would have told you to go for the 17 but..I just shot a little 26 this weekend at the OH GSSF match. It belonged to a friend of mine and it was my first time shooting a subcompact Glock...I have to have one. Shot great.
It has a different recoil than the 19 or 17. Its more of a backward motion and the barrel doesn't come up as much. I actually only shot 2 seconds different with the 26 than I did with the 17.
The longer shots were not as accurate but the gun just shoots. Perfect CCW pistol.

Well like most have agreed you already have a g19 not that theres anything wrong with duel wielding cool ass smoking G19's;f . If you plan on carrying as a CCW you should definitely choose the G17. Like stated above higher capacity, durability(duh it's a glock), bigger more agressive package to scare off the crooks, longer barrel so accuracy is improved a little over the 19. I've never had the pleasure of a G34 but its a target pistol not intended for carry just competition. I dont think it would be very practical. No matter what you choose it's glock and just have fun with it you only live once. Good luck hope I was any help.;j ^5 ~2
In retrospect, if you use a G19 for CCW, I think a good bet would be to buy a second G19 of the same generation. Add the same mods if any as your first, break it in, and throw it in the safe. Or rotate for CCW duty, either way. Having a duplicate of your CCW piece would be a great thing if you ever had to use your pistol for defense and the authorities take your gun for analysis or whatever.

For concealed carry the 26 is the king if you need more bullets use a G17 mag with a wrap around cover. That way you will never say I wish it was a little smaller.

G26 is all I have to say!
I have been an avid fan of the G17 since the early 90's. I own a 2nd Gen and a 3rd Gen. I purchased a G26 a year ago and since then both of my G17's are spending a lot of time sitting around in safes. The gun shoots IMHO a bit more accurate with less recoil. I know, it does not make sense. However, I've been shooting for 35 years, been carrying for 23 years and have been a firearms instructor since 1991. Believe me, the G26 is one of the most wonderful handguns I have ever had the pleasure to shoot.
I spent most of this summer in Tucson and carried the G26 under baggy shirts and under my safari vests. I used a FOBUS belt holster or a Galco Concealable depending on attire and as usual I carried a G17 mag for a reload.
Apart from the obvious comfort, it is an extremely accurate gun (for such a short barrel) and has the same relentless reliability of my G17's.
The short grip is no problem even with multiple follow-up shots and I've never had any problems using G17 mags without ever using any kind of sleeve or extension.
Again, IMHO, you can't go wrong with either the G17 or G26...or even the G34. Try them all out if you can. For me it's the G26!
Good luck.

I'd take the G17 or G34, followed by the 26 with the 19 as the last choice. The 17/34 have the same grip, which fits me perfectly. The 26 grip is like a shorter 17/34, and the 19's grip is completely different. Also the added capacity is nice, and the full size butts are not that hard to conceal.

I agree, the 19 just feels different than both the 26 and the 17.
I'd say try both the 26 and 17, and see which one feels better in your hands; you can carry either, and it seems you just have an itch for something different.

If you like the g34, then you will love the 3rd gen
G17L. but can't use it in IDPA matches.
;? ;Y ;?
Get the G17. If you are big you may even like the grip more than the G19. I have both, my hands are big and I like the G17, but carry the G19. They are very close.

I have The 17, 19 and 26. I really like all 3. My 19 is what I end up carrying most days, and my 26 just sits around with my 17. The 17 is a great range gun. With you already having a 19, I'd go with the 26 then get a 17. I had my Glock 26 DuraCoated also, and here is a picture:
