View Full Version : CRSC vs. CRDP?
Just got a mailer from the VA, with an application for Combat Related Special Compensation benefits.
I've allready got a 60% rating with the concurrent receipt thing. I think I may be eligible for the CSRC, but it's unclear if the hassle of digging out the paperwork and sending it all off would make a meaningful difference in compensation.
Anyone know the finer points on the differences in compensation rates, or are there any websites that explain it in better detail than the VA?

Actually, it's not a "Both" thing, its an either/ or issue, but (From what I've read) the CRSC compensation rates are higher than regular rates with the 10 year phased-in Concurrent Receipt compensation.
I'm currently waiting on a reply to an e-mail I sent to the VA for more detailed info.
FYI- For all of you that are 1-2 yrs from retirement, stop by your Post/ Base VA office on a quiet day and spend a few minutes visiting w/ the staff. It's a confusing process that takes a pile of paperwork and time, but it's much simpler than applying after you are retired.
The point here is not to "Seek" a disability rating, but to record all of the real injuries and big illnesses. They'll catch up with you as you age and it gets harder to successfully apply, the longer you wait.

I am drawing the Concurrent receipt, which is a joke, waiting ten years means alot of WWII/Korea vets will be dead before Uncle has to pay out. I have a 50% rating and sent my paperwork in two months ago for the new deal, have not heard a word from VA.

Update, I have 50% CRDP and yesterday received a 20% rating for CRSC, do a Google search on Concurrent Receipt Disability Program, all the info you need is there.

They advertized 6 mos, was actualy 45 days, easy to apply on line, down load and submit forms, be in mind "YOU" have to provide the proof documentation, I provided all I had here at home and only two of the five things I claimed were approved, I need to find/get the records for the other stuff to get them to relook at it, funny now I have to wait 60-90 for payment, should be a lump sum from Jan 2004 minus the $110 a mo payment for service connect in 2004, and $150 a mo payments for 2005 till now, they wont tell me (I waited 30 mins on hold) DFAS, about how much new non taxable rate is, with 2 dependants whats 20% a month of what new figure?!? I wish IU knew, anybody receiving it out their that can tell me?
cadillacguns-
I'm clueless about the taxation rate, but thought that CRSC was tax free? Why do you need to submit more data? Was your 50%/ 20% inadequate?
www.military.com had good info. You may want to call a Veterans Organization to help you cut through the fog of government BS. I've not used any of the organizations, but have been told that they have sharp guys that can help.
I finished my app. today. Had 6 items to submit for review, along with a pile of records. In the mail tomorrow. We'll see in a couple months.

No Go, I got a letter from the Army in July, I submitted a copy of my serevice connect 50%, and DD-214 with the forms, but I was under the impression thet they (ARMY) had my med files, so they should get the data. W R O N G, the onus is on you to prove that some or all of you rating was combat related, I had 20% of my 50% approved and will be digging in my attic next week for more records, ddint take long to get mine back, just clueless as to what the entiltlement will be.

Update 27 Sep 05, received over $1,770 in back payment to convert CRDP to CRSC. Still have not gotten all my records to the Army yet, when I do I should have it all straightened out, but for now thi is a nice start. Will find out on the 1st of Oct, what monthly stipend will be.
I called yesterday, and they comfirmed receipt of the documents and said that it was awaiting approval, whatever that means. I was told to expect notification about mid Oct??!
cadillacguns- Congrats, but keep hammering away for full/fair recognition.

I will but the difference in my CRDP and CRSC was only $46 a month, (I am not complaining) they reviewed my records and determined 20% of my 50% SCD was combat related. I will have to get records to back up my claim for anymore. Remember as soon as the CRDP which is phased in each year surpasses CRSC, you will go to the larger ammount even though the larger ammount is taxed.
Good luck to all. I would hope they (VA) are taking care of our new Veterans today.
