Hey guys, I was wondering if any one has any experience with those drop-in .380 barrels that they sell at gun shows and advertise in shotgun news. I saw that and thought it would be great to be able to switch calibers and use .380s whenever you cant find 9x18 ammo. Please let me know if you have any opinions, as I plan on getting a Bulgarian Mak quite soon ;f

The best advice I could give you is to leave the Mak as is.

I hope you realize that they are NOT "drop ins."

You have to use a barrel press to remove the first barrel and install the new one.

See the instructions posted on Makarov.com.

A makarov must be completely stripped down in order to replace the barrell. The barrel pin must be drifted out. A barrel press is a necessity and sometimes the barrel is rusted in place. Once the replacement barrel is position, a new barrel often requires that a hole (of just the right diameter) be drilled in order to position the new barrel pin. After that, you still have to shape the feed ramp and chamber mouth.

This is not the kind of thing one does in just a couple of hours. As the man said, they are NOT drop-in!
