A couple questions for the Beretta crowd:

Does the Vertec use the same mags as the non-Vertec?

Are the old style non-plastic triggers, mag releases, and decocker/safety levers available? If so, are they difficult to swap out?

Are the barrels of all Vertecs stainless?

Now on to the stainless 2032.

Is the mag release button hollow or solid? If I get one I'd like to grind it down so it is harder to accidentally drop the mag when in a pocket.

Beneath the barrel's feed ramp, there is a black stripe that runs down the inside of the frontstrap. It kind of looks like a plastic insert. Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks

This is the only one I can answer confidently....yes, the magazines are the same.

What is different are any of the after-market grips, like Hogues. They have to be specific to the Vertec -- you can't buy a standard 92FS and expect it to fit.

I took a pair of the standard 92 Hogue wrap arounds and modified them to fit my 92G Vertec. I used a pair of extra big scissors from IKEA and 10 minutes later I had a pair of Vertec grips. Much better than paying $50+ to Beretta for a pair! Pics are here: http://users.adelphia.net/~navy87guy/beretta92g.html

Someone else will have to chime in on the parts and such.

Hope this helps,

Jim

Standard mags fit the Vertec, which was the point. All they did was remove the curve from the backstrap and make the grips thinner too.

In order:

Yes, the mags are all the same.

My Vertec came with a plastic trigger, but with a metal mag release and safety. My armorer called the factory about a replacement metal trigger, and was told that they are no longer available in standard pull length. I ordered a short trigger (which I still have), but wound up putting in a lightly used standard trigger.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think all of the barrels are stainless. I believe the Bruniton finished models use carbon steel barrels. I know for sure that the barrel on my stainless Vertec is actually stainless, and not plated or otherwise finished.

Anyone ... anyone?

Thanks for the answers so far, I'm going to see if I can find a reasonably priced Vertec with the Brigadier slide.

However, I'm still interested in the question about the .32.

If you're interested in selling the short trigger, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands if I end up with the gun. I assume the triggers are the same on the Vertec and the standard 92?

I found out about the Tomcat. They use a steel feed ramp inserted in the aluminum frame. I think that's a gread idea to prevent the feed area on the frame from getting dinged up. Now if I could just find out if the mag release is solid enough to take it down a bit...

If you're after a Vertec with Brig slide, that basically describes the Elite 1 A. I just ordered one on Gunbroker. They're in the $600-$650 range.

Yes, it will fit all Beretta 92's -- standard and Vertec. I don't want to sell it though. I have this feeling that I'll want to put it in something someday.
