View Full Version : Any word yet on Double Tap 9MM? Vigilant 08-02-2005, 18:20 Still waiting to hear about the debut of the Double Tap 9MM line. Anyone heard any news? Vig TED 08-03-2005, 01:57 I'll second the request. TED PaleGreenHorse 08-03-2005, 02:15 Im disappointed once a day, hopefully I won't be soon. I check here everyday waiting for Mike's numbers on the 9mm. It will be worth the wait Im sure. :) Wallygator 08-03-2005, 14:38 Originally posted by PaleGreenHorse Im disappointed once a day, hopefully I won't be soon. I am hoping it is going to happen as planned. My G17L is hungry for the good stuff!;c D. Manley 08-03-2005, 14:57 I'm disappointed twice a day...waiting on DT's 9mm offering(s) as well as those from Buffalo Bore. I don't know what BB is waiting on, they've had the ballistics posted for months. I recently got an email saying, "summer of 2005" is as close as they could get to delivery time. RENEA 08-03-2005, 19:42 maybe they're loading it on a Dillon 650? 147 Grain 08-03-2005, 21:10 What type of numbers and bullet weight do we hope to expect? MPG1737 08-03-2005, 22:31 I'm wondering if the higher velocities coupled with the velocity boost from my G17L will put the bullet outside it's performance window. 147 Grain 08-04-2005, 01:12 I wouldn't worry about a Gold Dot going too fast or expanding too much, as I doubt it will ever happen. This bonded bullet is extremely tough and built stronger than civilians need for self defense. This bonded bullet is extremely tough and built stronger than civilians need for self defense. Actually, the Gold Dot can go too fast, and it does fragment. Bonded or non-bonded, if you push a bullet too fast, it will come apart. ukgrad1968 08-04-2005, 11:24 Originally posted by MPG1737 I was wondering the same thing. My G17L is hungry for the good stuff!;c "good stuff" is already out there... whats wrong with the gold-dot ammo made by speer?? a BG wont be able to tell the diff between a speer gold dot and a double tap one MPG1737 08-04-2005, 11:41 Originally posted by ukgrad1968 "good stuff" is already out there... whats wrong with the gold-dot ammo made by speer?? a BG wont be able to tell the diff between a speer gold dot and a double tap one I have not yet seen any ballistic data on DoubleTap 9mm. My guess is that it will have increased expansion, and penetration. I will want some. Whether or not the BG can tell the difference? It doesn't matter if he can. There is no way of knowing if it's more effective in any particular situation. Unless you could try a standard pressure Gold Dot on the BG, measure his reaction, then turn back time, and do it again with a DoubleTap load. It's all personal preference. But until the data is available for these loads, it is too soon to start speculating as to their effectiveness. Wallygator 08-04-2005, 13:02 Originally posted by ukgrad1968 "good stuff" is already out there... whats wrong with the gold-dot ammo made by speer?? a BG wont be able to tell the diff between a speer gold dot and a double tap one I think it would be nice to have another choice in 9mm. Especially a choice that will probably be equal, if not better than what Speer offers. DT is also a supporter of this site and they have great ammo. I use their 10mm almost exclusively and it is of very high quality and the owner is a straight up guy that will help you with any questions you might have. I like supporting companies like DT. I carry Speer 124 +p in 9mm now. I think it might be taking DT a little while longer to release because of the great choices we already have in 9mm. They are trying to find the right combination. 147 Grain 08-05-2005, 10:17 Are they working on loads for two 9mm bullet weights, as in 124-gr. +P+ or making a 147-grainer a +P round? Steve P.S. It'd be great to have a 147-gr. Gold Dot (which needs more speed for better expansion; penetration is fine) moving 150 +/- fps faster, similar to what Winchester did with the standard pressure 230-gr. Ranger T in 45 which they upgraded to a +P. justtalking 08-05-2005, 11:17 I got an email from Mike yesterday. he is moving into a larger building and hopes to have the new 9mm ready by the end of this month. That's right from the horse's mouth. I can't waite. Vigilant 08-05-2005, 18:28 Well, I just ordered another batch of Shear Power Plus Gold Dots from Georgia Arms. They come within 20 fps of Speer's factory round, and the price is right. I'm gonna wait and see on DT's 9MM ammo. I really don't think there is any better-designed, higher-quality ammo out there. But I still think about those reports we read from time to time about Ranger T 127-grain +P+ causing accellerated wear to the gun. That said, I still wish McNett nothing but the best. Vig straightblast 08-07-2005, 21:56 There is good ammo our there already for the 9mm...and the 10mm...and the .357...but let me tell you my experience in dealing with Mike at DoubleTap-----the guy who loaded your ammo will answer the phone and talk to you about it, and listens. Mike is absolutely top drawer. Try getting the head honcho at Winchester on the phone to talk about the 1,000 rounds of ammo you just bought. 1911austin 08-08-2005, 13:12 Though it has taken longer than I thought to get things ready, the 9mm loads will be ready to ship on 8/15/05! Here are the velocities for the first three loads from a stock G17: 115gr GDHP +p - 1400fps 124gr GDHP +p - 1300fps 147gr GDHP +p - 1125fps We have been moving the whole operation to Cedar City, Utah (almost 300 miles away!). Due to the move all of our 9mm and big bore revolver loads were pushed back. -Mike MPG1737 08-08-2005, 14:23 So these will be +P loads?!? I thought DoubleTap was within SAAMI specs? Either way I am anxious to see the gel results with those three loads. I am especially interested in the 147gr. I wonder what kind of velocities I will get out of my G17L! It would be great to see some tests from a 6 inch barrel, but I am not holding my breath on that one. TED 08-08-2005, 14:53 9mm is one of the few cartridges that actually does have an offical SAAMI spec for +P (the others are .45 and .38 Spcl, other cartrdiges labeled as +p are just a marekting ploy for ammunition that may or may not be in any sort of SAAMI spec depending on the mfgr). So to say that a 9mm loading is a +P loading and that it is SAAMI spec is not a contradiction. Those loads sound awesome and I probably won't be able to get some for a while since everyone on here is going to ordering some. That 9mm machine is going to be real busy.;f bac1023 08-08-2005, 19:54 Looks great! MCNETT 08-09-2005, 00:15 You guys are really going to love them! No flash and very accurate. Gel test results to follow on 8/14/05. -Mike PaleGreenHorse 08-09-2005, 00:22 Who wants to bet for kudos on the best gelatin results from the gold dot line? I'm going with the 124gr. +p ;f Mr Jody Hudson 08-09-2005, 00:37 Prices please Mike???? My Debit card is all slippery and ready to pull out! ;f 147 Grain 08-09-2005, 01:19 Since heavier bullets usually perform best in the majority of calibers, I suspect the 9mm 147-gr. loads @ 1,125 fps will come out on top like they do with about every ammo manufacture out there. Most PD's using 9mm's are NOW recommending the 147's over the 124's now-a-days. 147 Grain 08-09-2005, 01:21 P.S.: Put me down for two cases of 147-gr. and check your e-mail for advanced order.
