View Full Version : Who carries their Makarov?
I don't carry my makarov but when I get a good holster for it I might. But who here does carry their makarov? What kind? Ammo?

I do at times. I have several carry weapons including three Makarovs. I took an EG with me just this past weekend.

I don't use a Mak for concealed carry but I usually have one or two in the cars, usually loaded with Silver Bear 115-120gr JHP, Barnaul 95gr JHP or reloads using the Hornady 95gr JHP XTP at about 1,100 fps.
I use a Don Hume JIT holster for concealed carry. I've got one for the Mak but hardly ever use it.
I wouldn't feel at a disadvantage carrying the Mak, it's just that for the same size and weight I can carry a laser equipped Kimber Tactical Ultra 45ACP.

I do. Falco IWB loaded with 115gr Wolf(will be changed soon)
The Falco is ok, just a little on the thick side. But it's the right price...

I have carried a Mak but I prefer my Bersa Thunder 45 for Detroit and my Bersa Thunder 380 for gentler places. Regards, Richard:)
I carry mine when my Glock 20 is too big, which isn't very often.
I carry the Mak in a Falco ISWB holster.

I carry mine often.
I carry mine frequently and it goes to work as a truck gun. When carrying, often it's in a pocket of my cargo shorts...doesn't print much but looses out to the Airweight L frame in weight.SEven shots of +P+ .38sp versus eight of 9x18....:)

I carry mine in the falco IWB holster and barnaul 95 grain JHP. It might lose out to my new .45 as soon as I get a holster for it and can prove to myself that it's reliable. I will still keep it as an option though.

On a related note: Did some practice drills from the holster yesterday with my Makarov. One one occasion I drew, pulled the trigger, hammer fell, nothing happened. Long story short, the safety had moved upward a bit (during the previous re-holster I guess)into a sort of halfway position where the trigger and slide weren't locked, but the firing pin was blocked from the hammer fall.
Up til now I didn't know this was even possible. Being a little more conscientious during reholstering put an end to this, and I'll remember to keep an eye out for this phenomenon in the future.
Nothing like some real-as-possible practice to shake out the potential snafus in any gun.
All the time - inside the front pocket of my shorts and 2 backup mags on a Safariland dual mag holder on my left-side. Its slim and easy to conceal, and I figure with decent grade Hornady or Silver Bear ammo as my carry load I don't feel at a disadvantage. Afterall, people carried .32/.380 ACP for years and successfully defended themselves. I'd even argue that the Mak gives an edge over someone who carries a Jframe/SP101 sized revolver. That is 9 rounds (ie 8 in the mag, 1 in the chamber) of 9x18 vs 5 rds of .38 spl.
But yeah, once winter weather (kind of a subjective thought here in Texas ;f ) forces people to dress heavier, I'll probably go back to my G19 or 1911.
