I have a 1006 which goes 'bang' every time with Federal Classic 180 grain JHP.
I want to buy some Double Tap 180 grain Gold Dot ammo to use in the 1006.
Is my stock recoil spring going provide enough resistance to the Double Tap ammo? It seems just right for the Federal Classic stuff.
If the product # for the Federal load is "C10C," then the 180gn HP is a Hi-Shok JHP @ 1030fps from Federal's 5" test barrel. That's only slightly above the .40-duplicating FBI-Lite load (a 180gn JHP @ 950fps). The Federal 10mm load is, at best, a low mid-range factory load.
Re your question on recoil springs: the stock spring is okay for some limited shooting of the hotter 10mm loads. But if you're going to fire the hot stuff continuously, then I'd recommend either the 20lb or 22lb Wolff XP recoil springs. My 1006's run fine with either - though 99% of the time it's got the 20lb spring in it.
Agtman is right. For me I prefer the 22lb. spring in my 1076 and 1006.
