I did the mainspring mod. to lighten trigger pull for both single and double action.
Is there a way to measure what my pull weights are at this point?
I have no idea whether I can/need to lighten pull even more as I don't know what the pull is at this point
I don't want to buy expensive equip. for a one or two time use.
Any suggestions??

I don't have a trigger pull gauge either. My EG has a perfect DA trigger pull and I used it as a guide when I worked on the DA leaf of the mainspring of my Bulgarian. Once they felt about the same, I was done.

Maybe someone you know has a Mak with a nice trigger pull you could use for that purpose. Or perhaps a dealer / gun shop you have done business with could let you use one of their trigger pull gauges.

Test fire of course after you're done. Haven't heard of anyone having any problems after doing this though. You'd have to really get carried away in removing metal from the sides of the leaf.

See the pictures and postings by "CB3" - I did it, works great. I am "alamo" on that forum and others.

I have done the mod on several of my Maks. Works great.
2 hints: 1) do NOT mess with the smaller leaf, 2) be sure to polish the scratches out of the area that you narrow the spring to avoid stress points.

What about the long run do you think these mainsprings will wear out faster?

Low Tech trigger pull gauge-

- Any form of cheap measurable weight. I used pieces of 1/2" steel plate with a hole drilled in each to suspend them, but pretty much anything durable would work.

- A trigger pull leg. I used a piece of 3/16" welding rod. Costs about $0.34 at a welding supply house or hardware store. Bent into a tall "L" (Look at a web page showing a "NRA Type" gauge) then a hook shaped bend at the other end to hold the weights. I covered the "L" with a piece of heat shrink tubing to protect the trigger and guard. Tape would work as well.

-Using my wife's postage scale, I trimmed and weighed the weights until they were right on 1#each, then one at 1/2#.

- Worked to bring the MAK DA pull down nicely. I took the bulk of the mainspring down w/ Dremel, pausing to cool when too hot to touch, then finished w/ file and Scotchbrite pad.

Good luck! Maks are fun to work on. Like a puzzle.
