So I got some of this stuff the other day, and it says it cleans and lubes. I had just detail stripped and used Hoppes solvent for cleaning. I then used the CLP for lube. So I want to know if this stuff is good to use as a solvent, and what is the procedure for cleaning AND lubing with CLP. I didn't bother with the search fcn.

quichedem,
CLP is fine as a general cleaner but I'd only use it if there was nothing better. For the barrel use a bore cleaner and use CLP for the slide and frame. That's is assuming you don't have a Glock. Just shake it well to disperse the teflon inside the bottle and apply to the cleaning part. Brush the part til clean and wipe off. Take a patch and light re-apply oil for preserving parts.

CLP is a compromise 3 in 1 product.
It works but not as well as using seperate products.
Breakfree has a new product out called 'LP' which is the lubricant and preservative without the solvent component, which is supposed to stiffen up the lubricant portion of the formula. As standard CLP is far too thin to be an effective lubricant especially in hot weather. The solvent component also attracts alot of crud, which turns into a carbonated goo in some conditions.
I used CLP for years in the Marines, and it worked in garrison but malfunctions on the firing line were frequent. The CLP had something to do with it, but mostly it was due to the requirement of keeping ones weapon inspection ready at all times (which is dry).
I have found a much better manner in which to clean and lube is to use a solvent in your bore and on very dirty parts, followed by a good synthetic gun oil. Of course certain parts need visible lubricant (moving parts) and other parts only need a good wiping with no visible lube left. And run a damp oiled patch down your bore, followed by a dry patch.
Currently I use Hoppes Elite gun cleaner with a bore brush, and Militec for lubrication. It's a very effective combination. Every few hundred rounds I also use a mild copper cleaner, something like shooters choice, etc....
