View Full Version : Any opinions on Scherers 29rd mags?
I have models 20 and 29. Both have 4 neutered 10 rd magazines. I was looking at the Scherer 29 rounders on Topglock. They have them for $65. Thinking about getting 2, but I haven't used Scherer before and haven't heard anything about their reliability. Anything I should know/consider? Anyone with one have its measurements?
Price is high.
I got one for $45 at gun store.
Have not tried it yet.
Too much camping/kayaking to do.;f
Price IS high these days.
I had 2 of each for a 34 and a 35.
I never had any issues with them. They worked great.
My experiences with Sherer products are mixed. I dont buy their stuff anymore other than as a novelty, and only then at a killer price.

Well they are a really cool idea if nothing else!
If they do work well, someone please let me know so I can pick one up
i bought one when the4y first came out and it kept locking the slide open like every other round. place i bought it from asked me if i was leaning my hand on it but seemed hard not to. sent it back.
Mike McNett had posted at the time that he had similar problems with the batch he'd gotten and had sent them back as well.
just make sure you can return them from the place that's selling them and let us know how they work if you do buy any.
and yes the price is high, i paid $49 at the time.
I have sold quite a few and only had one that failed to lock the slide back after the last round. Scherer replaced it immediately with no hassle. If you decide to try one, I have them in 40s&w, 10mm and 45acp. You can contact me at jwkpatrick@yahoo.com.
no no, the problem i had was that they *kept* locking the slide back.. like every other round.
where in FL? if you're near palm beach maybe i'll pop by..
I'm a little north, Jacksonville. I have them available for $45.00 each and I pay the shipping via USPS priority mail. I will also have them at the Orlando Fairgrounds gunshow on August 20 and 21.
If you are interested in placing an order, contact me direct at jwkpatrick@yahoo.com.
Thanks, Jerry.

If they are anything like the 33rnder 9mm Scherers, I would not take a chance on them. They sometimes failed to feed.

Do they have cracks down the side? I bought a 40 mag and it was cracked. I posted about it and sure enough, most responses were theirs had the crack also. Weird. Also, if you can get a Glock follower, and a Glock 33 rd. mag spring, it may improve reliability. I took the extension off and put a Glock base on it as well. Would you trade for two brand new G18 mag's? I'm in St. Augustine.
Hi:
None of mine have any cracks anywhere on the magazines. Are you wanting to trade 2 of the brand new G18 magazines for one of the brand new Scherer 40s&w magazines? I am in Jacksonville.
Once I get around to getting one, I'll replace the same parts RedSkyz did:
Glock Follower, Spring, and Base. I might use a Wolff 10% spring, though.
I've also read you have to even out the area inside the tube where the metal lining ends and the bare plastic is revealed. Apparently Scherer's manufacturing process leaves little shavings of plastic sticking up. You can use a file, sandpaper or a dremel. I don't anticipate problems, but this will be a range only mag. I do carry a Glock mag with an Arredondo +5, though, as my first reload mag. It hasn't had any failures.
that arredondo fit 10mm? just went to their site but only saw them for the .40.

Under "Glock Base Pads" just click the pop up menu that says "9mm/40 S&W" and select "Models 20/21"
I'm still imprssed by its compactness. I didn't think 5 rounds would fit, but they do.
Yet I must...have...29 rounder...
hey thanks saspic, sounds great.
definitely post your experience with the modified scherers if/when you decide to give that a try..
