The PMM Pistol Modernized Makarov, the wide bodied ones made for the Russian military and police market had a grooved chamber to act as a delay mechanism for use with the high impusle 9x18mm sub-gun and AP loadings. The wide bodied guns imported to the US did not have these grooved chambers.

I wonder what might be possible in terms of hotter higher perfoming loads if we had access to the barrells witht he grooved chambers or if someone replicated this feature.

BTW, it did tend to be hard on the casings AFAIK, but this may have only been the case when using the high impulse sub gun/AP laodings. At any rate, once ammo were fired from sucha chamber, it may not be a good idea to reload it after that.

OTOH, it is my understanding that hte CZ82 was designed toa ccept these loads without resorting to a grooved chamber. IF, this is the case, I wonder what they could handle?

Be careful.
The PMM took a special round. None of them were imported into this country. The heaviest round that can safely be shot in a Mak is a regular 9x18. You are asking for trouble if you try more.

As to the CZ-82, never heard that it would accept that heavier round.

Right it was the grroved chamber that allowed it to take the special round. That is what makes me wonder what might be achieved with hotter loads if we had grooved chambers for our Makarovs.
