I'm a believer in the reliability and utility of Russian firearms. I'm interested in purchasing a Makarov. My question is: Would those of you in the know recommend an Excellent Condition (Used) Bulgarian or a New Polish Mak?

No such thing as a Polish Mak. You're thinking of the Polish P-64. It shoots 9x18 but is not a Makarov. Doing some reading up on Maks:

I've got several of both.

Get the Bulgarian Mak.

Get the Bulgarian. No question. Thats like comparing a Glock to a HiPoint.

I asked this guy at a gunstore the other day if he had any Makarovs. He pulled out one of these P-64's. I didn't know what to say when he handed it to me so I just said the first thing that came to mind. "Got any REAL Makarovs?" Kind of pissed him off and embarassed him a little. I don't like this gun store anyway. When he finally found a "LNIB" Bulgarian I noticed the price. ;g $269!!! I happen to know this guy drives 20 minutes to Southern Ohio Gun about once a week to get product. :( But there seems to be no shortage of people who have no idea these go for $150. What a crook. :soap:
