Anyone carry one of these (G17) regularly for CCW? If so, do you have any trouble concealing it?

I do, almost year round. In the hottest summer months, try a FIST #20 (kydex) IWB. In the winter, any comfortable quality OWB will do: Sidearmor, Kramer, whatever. Big_Jim 08-06-2005, 16:54 G17 or G22 in a Fist #20 (Leather). Conceals 10x better than a 1911 and not much harder than the G27. I actually prefer the larger guns when carrying IWB. vafish 08-08-2005, 10:08 Originally posted by Big_Jim ....I actually prefer the larger guns when carrying IWB. I think Longer barreled guns (within reason of course) work better IWB because the extra barrel length inside your pants helps hold the gun closer to your body. The only problem is hiding the larger grip. InnerWarrior 08-19-2005, 13:03 I carry one year round and have no problem carrying. I am a lefty so I carry at about 10-10:30 IWB. I wiegh about 165 and I am tall. I find it fairly easy to carry and noone even the rare few who know I carry ie. my dad and brother; know when I am carrying. The grip is somewhat akward at times but a little repositioning and your good to go. Vigilant 08-19-2005, 18:23 I have heard good things about a Tucker Answer, and am considering ordering one. Can anyone offer any thoughts? Vig kswiss2783 08-21-2005, 23:10 I have no personal experience with one, but I have heard only good things about them. TJS 08-22-2005, 07:29 Had one and it was not the Answer for me! Did not even keep it one day! cowpuncher/pi 08-23-2005, 21:01 The UCR iwb is the answer. I carry a 27,17,23,36 or a 35 in the same holster. Spieler 08-26-2005, 01:31 I carry a 1st generation G17 in a FOBUS paddle holster almost every day with no issues whatsoever. Usually worn with just an untucked polo or T-shirt and nobody is the wiser. This set-up has been my primary mode of carry for the past two years here in GA. sneakyracer 08-26-2005, 17:56 I have a G27 and a G17. Although the 27 is much much easier to conceal even with pinky mag extensions the 17 isnt bad at all. The 27 is quicker out of the holster obviously. I dont care for the accesory rail on the 17. Wish it didnt have it. I have one Don hume leather IWB for each. ElectricZombie 09-04-2005, 16:50 Originally posted by TJS Anyone carry one of these (G17) regularly for CCW? The UCR is a good holster, but I've had one break at the clips before. The next holster I buy will probably be one of "The Answer" holsters. domzilla9 09-04-2005, 18:59 Originally posted by vafish I think Longer barreled guns (within reason of course) work better IWB because the extra barrel length inside your pants helps hold the gun closer to your body. The only problem is hiding the larger grip. +1 In late june I put my G30 up in the safe and started carrying a G17 in a Milt Sparks Executive Companion at 3:00, IWB. I think it's a little more comfortable than the G30 but seller for me is that the longer butt actually stays under the shirt better (it's not as easy for the shirt to blow over the grip). That and the fact that I did some hillbilly ballistic test and 147gr +P 9mm compared nicely with 230 gr +P. new2mud 09-27-2005, 15:57 I was shocked at how well and easily the Tucker ANSWER conceals a full-frame. Due to the larger grip, it's not quite as easy to conceal as a sub-compact, but not that far off, as long as you're not wearing fitted T-shirts. Also, can wear 20+ hours and almost forget it's there. (It's the weight on the belt that remids you, not any digging into your side). smrkdown 09-30-2005, 22:02 Only gun I own is a Glock 17 (though I want a Glock 21), and it conceals okay, but it is noticeable if I don't wear baggy shirts. I use a Fobus paddle, but I've been eyeing up an Uncle Mike's for a while now. jajthoma 10-05-2005, 19:43 I have a Milt Sparks Versamax inside the pants holster It is very comfortable and it's about as good as it gets form a concealment, comfort, readiness standpoint. lastevolution 10-06-2005, 00:16 I hear good things about CompTac's CTAC as well. I plan to get one soon, along with a Wilderness Instructors Belt. The only problem is hiding the larger grip. More comfortable too! (Them short gun & holster combos REALLY dig into you.) The way around all of this, of course, is just to buy the lager GLOCK holster for your smaller GLOCK model. ^c (This works with other gun designs too.) My main CCW is a G34 (same frame as the G17) in an OWB kydex FIST #7... carry it all year long & it conceals nicely in just my sandals, shorts & a non-skintight T-shirt. My G34 conceals so well that I haven't carried my G19 in years (I keep it around for that one special circumstance that the G34 is too large to conceal, but I haven't found it yet.)... before that I sold both of my G26's when I found out how easy it was to conceal the G19. REB26 10-10-2005, 00:06 if your idea of concealment is as defined as mine, you CANNOT conceal that gun, the g17! then again, thats why i have a g26:) domzilla9 10-10-2005, 07:43 Originally posted by Michigun My G34 conceals so well that I haven't carried my G19 in years (I keep it around for that one special circumstance that the G34 is too large to conceal, but I haven't found it yet.)... before that I sold both of my G26's when I found out how easy it was to conceal the G19. +1! I too sold both my G26s when I found the right iwb holster, a Milt Sparks Exec. I carried a G30 for a good while but found the longer barrel length of the G17 or G21 to be more comfortable when worn in the waistband. Even if you're carrying a short gripped pistol like the G26 on your belt or in your waistband you have to dress around the gun. Once you learn to do that you should realize that you can hide a lot of gun with little effort. I tried to make the G26 work as a pocket pistol for a long time but then I learned how to shoot a snub nose .38 revolver and I haven't looked back since. I rarely have to resort to pocket carry. I have a Milt Sparks Exec Companion for my G34 on order! Michigun 10-10-2005, 09:05 Originally posted by REB26 if your idea of concealment is as defined as mine, you CANNOT conceal that gun, the g17! then again, thats why i have a g26:) What, are you hiding that G26 “where the sun don't shine” or something? ^8 (Never mind, don’t answer that question……. :)) domzilla9 10-10-2005, 09:14 G26 in a quality ITBC holster - the ultimate in concealment! ;z Claywms 10-11-2005, 18:52 I CCW my G17 quite often using a Don Hume OWB and a C-TAC IWB. (Wow, there are a lot of abbreviations in gun lingo!) Anyway, as long as your wear a baggy shirt you'll be fine. I just sold my G26 because I realized that it does not take much more effort to carry my G17, which is my favorite gun. Good luck. Tom N. 10-12-2005, 17:54 I carry my G17 concealed all the time and have no problems doing it. The right holster, belt, and clothing makes it all but disappear... which is the goal. :) brownie 10-18-2005, 15:03 Just switched out to the g-17 first gen today with the weather getting cooler here in the desert. It will be carried now until I see 103-105 again in May-June 06. It is carried exclusively in a MS Versamax 2. I own entirely too many holsters for every gun, but the 17 and my 1911 in Versamax 2's get the carry nod now, the others need to be sold off. Robin Brown johnstrr 01-21-2006, 22:08 I Just got a CTAC for my 17 and it worked great for me. I'm 6'2, 180 and wear at 4:00. We went out to do a little IDPA practice today... draw was crisp and reholstering was smooth and easy to find, my shirt was kept clear all day. With a shirt untucked it was only visable as a handle protrusion print while bending over, pretty normal. All-in-all I am quite pleased. The double mag holder is nice too, tension adjustable. Only problem that I see quality wise is the rubber spacers showing a little sign of dry-rot around the edges, other than that it looks well made. Hope this helps someone... like others helped me make the decision. Pics on request. Edit to add that the leather makes me want to get out the mallet and punches and work a design into it.;f J.P. 01-22-2006, 18:42 I've tried a LOT of IWB holsters. I've been carrying a G17 in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 and honestly, that is as good as it gets. The summer special 2 is a great choice as well and many prefer it to the VM2.I've tried both and they each have their merits. On rare occasions,I use the Smartcarry. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
