Put 200 rds of Silver Bear thru the Mak today and was favorably impressed. Grouped well at 7 yds, no FTF/FTE and overall seemed like a satisfactory carry round. Have another 100 I'll fire next weekend as well. Looks like this will replace the Hornady as my carry round.

Its funny, I'm not recoil shy - I regularly fire .357's out of my SP 101 but the Silver Bear seemed like a pretty stout round. After 200 rounds the web of my right had was taking on a distinct red color ;f

As an aside, out of 3 shooters when I arrived at the pistol side of the range, TWO others had Mak's! Meaning at that time I was at the range 3 of 4 (75% of us) were firing Mak's. One had a Bulgy Mak like mine, the other was East German. Can't say I was overly impressed with the East German Mak appearance - it didn't look at lot better than my Bulgy. Trigger sure was smooth though. Definitely an improvement over mine.

I wonder if I should buy another Mak as it looks like the secret may be getting out meaning the price may go up!

Do you have the stock recoil spring in your Mak?

If you are going to give the gun a steady diet of (115gr) Silver Bear I'd suggest you use a 21 pound spring. It will tame the recoil a little.

You could also ues a Pearce (rubber) grip. Personally I don't like that they are so wide but some owners like them.

I buy another Mak every chance I get, so I'd say yes buy another one.:)

Could I order one of those on Makarov.com? Or where else. I'm willing to bet the spring I have now IS stock.

You're in Galveston? I'm planning a trip there, first time since the mid '80's. Is Pier 21 restaurant still in operation? Thanks.

So far as I know it is still in operation. But really, Guidos or some roadhouses off the Strand are better value. I thought Pier 21 (and some of the places close by) were kinda pricey for what you got.

Thanks for the tip guys - just ordered a 21lb spring from Makarov.com. We'll see if it makes a difference next weekend for another 100 rds of Silver Bear.

Back in the '80's Pier 21 was known as a great "poor man's" place to eat. Very scarse furnishings but excellent, cheap food. Things like a quart of gumbo for $2.00 were always welcomed! One could also pick seafood coming right off the pier. Things must have changed???

Admittedly Guy I haven't been there in awhile and maybe I walked into the wrong joint when I did ;f . Don't let me discourage you into checking the place out again....grin.

But I think you could still find places like the ones you described in Galveston. Trouble is, during the summer (particularly on weekends) they are likley pretty crowded :(
