Hello current and future Steyr owners.
Before I took the M9 (2002 production, I think) out for its first spin on the lane, I gave the pistol a good cleaning. To my surprise, it was not that dirty, just bone dry. After a good cleaning and lubing, I proceeded to polish the exactor and the barrel feed ramp. Upon inspection of the pistol while it was apart, I feel it’s a well made pistol. IMO, superior design in some aspects more than the Glock.
I took an assortment of ammo to the range, WWB, Blasers, Hornady XTP, Federal HST and some reload range ammo purchased there, all 124gr’ers. I had absolutely no FTE or FTF at all. Nor, that I remember, did I experience getting dinged in the head by ejected shell cases. It was truly a pleasant day on the firing range. When I was done shooting that day, I left with a nice-warm-fussy-feeling inside about this weapon.
I will admit, I found the trigger a little heavy for my taste, and hopefully it will lighten up over time. Also, the trap sites are going to take some time to get use to. I just couldn’t group my shots as well as I could with my G26 or G19. Although, I did get good groups with fast combat type shooting at 15 feet. Which I find this pistol performs admiral well with its low bore axis.
For the money, this is a great pistol. I think I’m going to keep it!
Best,
WPM
P.S. I posted this on the Steyr’s club site as well.
