View Full Version : "worn out" G19?

I didn't think it was possible, but it looks like I have purchased a worn out G19. When I got the gun (internet purchase) it was obvious that it had been the previous owners competition gun. It had been shot a LOT and was filthy. It appears that his ammo of choice was Wolf because most of the barrel was coated in laquer that required scraping to remove. I can't really complain much since I paid a decent price for it. I DON'T think I got ripped off.
I had a chance to shoot it off the bench this weekend and the best I could get out of it was 6" at 25 yards with Winchester 115 gr ball and 124gr Gold Dots. My other G19 will group into 2" with either of those brands of ammo. It would appear that I am in need of a new barrel. I have used KKM match barrels in the past with good results. Does anyone else make a good replacement barrel that I should look in to?
BTW, I already replaced the recoil spring and the mag springs....the mag springs were totally shot.

You sure you got all the junk out of the barrel? Sounds like it wasn't maintained all that well and might take some serious elbow grease with a high quality cleaner and a copper brush. Kind of hard to tell without seeing it but I just wonder if the rifling isn't still loaded up.

The bore appears to be nice and shiny. But, based on your question, I will give it another going over tonight with some good copper fouling solvent. Results to follow....

Well, I went over it again with some copper solvent. My initial assessment of the bore was correct....no copper, nice and shiny....with very little rifling left. Looks like a good reason to try a match barrel in this little beast, so I ordered a Storm Lake Machine G19 barrel. I have used their barrels in a couple of custom 1911s and have been very happy with them. I was going to go with a KKM barrel, but I have two of those already. Once I get it installed, I'll let you know how it shoots!

Good deal. Man he must have put a lot of rounds through that thing to shoot out the rifling!! Hope all else goes well with the pistol and look forward to your Storm Lake report.

I'd suggest getting the barrel recrowned. It's cheap and may even make the gun more accurate than when it left the factory new.

Send it to Glock, they will replace ALL springs for free. Tell them it's grouping horribly and you might even get a free barrel.

Just FWIW, once bought a G20 that had the Hell shot out of it but did not really look it. Barrel appeared fine to the eye. Replacing it with a KKM turned it into a tack-driver. Could even tell the difference at 10-15 yds. offhand at IDPA Matches, etc.
zFind you a Glock armorer and but all the small part and have it rebuilt it would not be too much.. FWIW I have a BarSto in my Glock 35 with the lead incresed to load bullets to an OAL of 1.135. I shoot a 200 grain TC with 4.3 of WW231.
I only have Glocks and 1911 in my collection now. Its the only two semi auto I trust.
