View Full Version : g37 barrel in g39?
I've been shooting steel plates with a g39, and was wondering if I could stick a g37 barrel in the g39. Would it be more accurate, the barrel being the only variable? Would it be worth it? Thanks.
A longer barrel will increase velocity but have no effect on accuracy. A longer sight radius (distance between the sights) may improve shooter accuracy. That being said, I doubt it would even work. The G37 may have a slightly different locking lug than the G38 and G39.
You are probably shooting plates from a distance of 11 to 15 yards, and a longer sight radius might be of no help at all.

As usual, Danny R is right. Within caliber "families," the "full size" has a different lug on the bottom of the barrel than the "compact" and "sub compact." For example, in 9mm, a G19 barrel could be used in a G26 but a G17 barrel would not work with either a G19 or a G26. I have been trying to locate a G38 barrel to use in my G39. I have a G37 and a G39 and I would like to have the intermediate size to compare when I do some load chronographing in the near future. We know that the G37 has a velocity advantage because the bullet is being accelerated under pressure longer and the G38's velocity should fall somewhere in between but I would like to have the numbers.

By the way, if you install a the barrel from a full-sized Glock into one of the compact or sub-compact models, you'll have a heck of a time getting it apart. I found that out the hard way. ;g
