G-29.....Whoaaaaa!

I had the opportunity to shoot a g-29 today. All that comes to mind is whoaaa....this thing is for real. I found the recoil to be very manageable. It pushed liked a .45 with a little more flip. All together kind of like a quick, solid bump. I had one premature slide lock from limp-wristing. No problems after tightening my grip. I put my first five rounds in the x ring. I was even able to get off a relatively decent double tap.:) My accuracy started to suffer near the end of the box though (fatigue and increased distance). I was unable to get the corbon ammo, so I shot winchester silvertip 175. Im not sure where that falls into in regards to the "full power" of 10mm but I do not think I personally would want to get anything hotter ammo wise. If i could afford to practice with the 10mm Im sure that it would be my next purchase. I like to shoot alot and the silvertips were about 11.00 bucks for 20rnds (pricey for me). Well Im still debating between the g30 and the g29. My instructor said he would sell me his g-29/w holster for $495.00. Hmmmm? In all it was a cool experience and i have a alot of respect for those who shoot the 10.

By the way, there are a relatively high number of car jackings where I live so being able to shoot through window or car door effectively is pretty reassuring.

Its easy to warm up the hotter loads like DT, BB, GA, and Reeds. It just takes practice, and after a while they don't even feel like much because its the norm. My 29 is my primary carry and I shoot it very well. ;)

... with practice you can develop proficiency and speed with real 10mm ammo - and you should be practicing regularly if a hot 10mm JHP is what you carry.

It's just that to reach that skill level, you'll need to invest in a fair amount of range time and, given the amount of 10mm ammo you'll burn up getting there, money. But it can be done.

10mm practice loads, at or near full-strength and in different bullet-weights, are available from DT, Reed's Ammo & Research, and Power Strike Ammo.

I have not shot the 29 yet, but I would really like to. I may pick one up at some point. I have a 30 for now, but the 10mm is just calling my name. The 10mm is such a cool round b/c of the fact that not everyone in the world shoots it. While a 9mm is fine, their is nothing inherently cool about a 9mm. The 10mm though is something worth talking about. BTW, if you shoot a 29 and you are inside the car and the doors are closed and windows up, you're ears will be ringing for a very long time. Try to put your finger in atleast one of them - seriously.

Have fun out there, btw, the silver tips are a pretty powerful 10mm round, not quite the "hot stuff" but they are pretty sweet.
