I have a XM15 E2S with the Mini Y Comp Muzzle brake and Bushmaster lists it as permanently installed. Can it be removedor can the barrel be replaced? It seems to blow back quite a bit of muzzle blast and residue.

Send it to Adco they can take it off and rethread your bbl. then you can put any flash hider you want. i'd go with a phantom of some sort
just my 0.2cents worth.
Send it to ADCO. Fast and very professional.
Go to www.adcofirearms.com and look under "shop services". They did mine last October.
Or you could do it yourself. If you have a dremel then you have all the tools you need, just be careful not to nick the barrel.
im not sure at what length i want my barrel cut back to.its currently 20''i know i want at least the length of the FH/Comp .i wonder if i cut her back to 18" including FH ,If id loose anything besides a couple of ounces at the end of the barrel?my 20 bushmaster feels front heavy to me.so if i lobed her off to say 17 inches(assuming the phanton FH is 1 inch long)id have a 18 inch rifle that would balance better!;a

First things first. I removed my mini Y-comp myself. It's pinned at 12:00 o'clock and 6:00 o'clock and you will need to grind both pins before you can take off the brake.
Bushmaster also uses Loc-Tite (blue) along with the welding & pinning, so remember to heat the brake a little before attempting to unscrew the brake.
spober....well I don't quite understand what you are trying to achieve with your gun, but I wanted to let you know that a Phantom Flash Hider isn't an inch long, it's closer to 2 1/2". Your theory about barrel weight may be a little off the mark also. 1" of flash hider does not equal 1" of barrel. If your barrel is a 20" your Y-comp will simply unscrew from the barrel. Bushmaster only pins barrels less than 16" in length.
Oh and one more thing: I like the way you describe the Y-comp 23. Most of us would describe it as "The SOB bastard blows concussion straight back in my face and to any unlucky bastard standing next to me".
The Y-comp is the Devil. It has NO positive characteristics as far as I'm concerned. Muzzle jump? The AR15 has hardly any recoil as it is!

I'm not sure that is correct. As I recall the, now departed, AWB a threaded barrel was a no-no when on an AR because the pistol grip and the detachable magazine.
So if you got a barrel during the AWB, even if it's 20 inches, it might be pinned.
ETA: While I hate the Y-comp, I have seen noticable differences between ARs with and without comps. At a recent carbine class one gentleman had a Cav Comp and it worked very well. His follow-up shots were quicker with the comp than with a normal flashhider.

But wasn't the restriction on Flash Hiders, not Compensators? I thought Compensators were allowed during the AWB? Yeah, I guess that wouldn't matter if threaded barrels were outlawed huh? Thanks for the input.
