View Full Version : G29 Guide Rod
Has anyone else had problems with their G29 guide rod digging into the frame? I’ve been using a Wolf guide rod since I bought the gun. The base of the guide rod digs into my frame. I use a 21lbs recoil spring and end up replacing a the slide lock spring about every 3k rounds from the stress of the guide rod base beating into the slide lock spring...

I broke a slide lock spring, but it never occured to me that that was the cause (I have to wolff unit too). I'll have to make regular inspection.
Here is a better pick of my 29 frame…

Also a pick of a factory guide rode compared to a Wolf guide rod…

Hmmm, I just checked my G29 and mine shows no wear like that. That groove is pretty deep. I don't have a wolf recoil assembly in mine though, its a different brand aftermarket recoil assembly, but the base of the guide rod is thick like the wolf one, not thin like the stock one.

Take out the takedown lever spring. If it's like that under there, it's probobly a blem from the factory. You may not have noticed it. My first 20 had the same thing, only much worse. It never got worse or was a problem. There is the piece of metal, the same piece that are the rails, under there. It could only get so bad but if it bothers you send Glock and e-mail with your pics.
Are you using an aftermarket barrel as well? The reason I ask is that at least some of them (Bar-Sto, for sure) has the semi-circle on the front underlug raised so as to induce a tight lock-up when the gun is in full battery. This will push the base of the recoil rod down into the frame and may be causing the indentation. I myself have my 23 fitted with a Bar-Sto and a Harrt's recoil rod...Unfortunately, it is in the safe at my parent's house and therefore I cannot check it right now.
One more question Carosem: You said that you had to replace the slide-lock spring every 3K rounds. What specifically is the reason for this? Have you noticed that the slide lock droops due to it being pushed down, thanks to the gap that now allows the base of the recoil rod to drop below where it's supposed to go, and push down on the leaf spring? In other words, when your G29 is fully assembled, at rest in full battery, do you notice the take down lever not being fully elevated, and or easier (too much so) to pull down?
Thanks...

Yes, I have been using an after market barrel KKM...but only recently (last 3k rounds). I noticed this problem before I got the KKM. The reason I keep replacing the slide lock spring every 3k rounds is because that’s usually how long it takes for the spring to break due to the significant pressure on the slide lock spring every time the pistol cycles, (even when using a factory guide rod and barrel). My slide lock spring isn’t under any pressure when the gun is in full battery and the slide lock is tight…only when it’s fired and the slide comes all the way back. I did notice on my gun with the slide all the way back, the slide lock rattles around but doesn’t come out. The slide lock is defiantly loose with the slide all the way back and locked compared to my G20 and G19. I will probable just send it back to Glock and see what they have to say. I just hate being without my 29...its my favorite pistol :)
Carosem, you're gonna hate me, but I have some more questions.
Does the KKM barrel have the raised half moon like the Bar-Sto for tighter lock-up or is like the stock barrel?
Does your 19 and 20 have an aftermarket barrel and or recoil rod (and spring)?
When your gun is locked back, the slide lock is easy to pull down and even rattles. Does it do this when the gun is field-stripped?
One more (I promise): I am not quite sure how cycling puts pressure on the lock-up spring. Can you describe how it does this?
Thanks.
