my hammer sits back further than any other ones ive seen. its a bulgarian cai marked and ive dated it to 1985.
when i pull the trigger the hammer doesnt go all the way forward to rest. it goes foward all the way and then slides back some when i dry fire.
I HAVE NOT SHOT IT YET, i noticed this while tinkering with it. is this normal? will it shoot. it looks brand new, not a ding or scratch. i believe i am the 3rd owner and it looks mint to me.

The Mak hammer will rebound a little due to the action of the smaller leaf of the main spring. Safety feature.

Try this. Dry fire in DA. Keep the trigger depressed. Take your other hand and press on the hammer. Note that it will move forward a little. Release the trigger. Note that the hammer will no longer move forward, but remains in a sort of half-cock position, not resting on the firing pin.

ok thats exactly how it works.
im sure its probably going to work fine, it will be a few weeks before i can afford to go shoot it. i got a stockpile of ammo and mags with it, but i cant afford to get into the range.
(25$ for me and the mrs)

put the end of an ink pen in the barrel (after clearing the weapon of course) and point it at the ceiling and pull the trigger. The pen should jump.

Do the same but use the decocker. if the pen jumps, don't use the decocker...

Excellent suggestions IMAS and Hauptmann6. I should have thought about that. I feel a lot better about the decocker now though I'll probably continue to use my thumb on the hammer when using the decocker

I wanted to try that with my CZ-52. Funny thing is the guys at the shop were laughing about trying to see if the FP worked and not being able to use the pen they usually do. They had to use a colored pencil. As one said, "That's a .30 caliber pencil, not our usual .38 caliber pen". ;f

Well I got home and i couldn't find anything that would fit in that dang bore. So until then, no decocking on a live round.

Maybe you can take the antenna off of a radio or just spend .60 on a little dowel rod.

Or go outside and point it at the ground and try it with a live round.;)

ahhhh
not a good idea to dryfore a cz52, the firing pin is brittle and will break off the tip and then 10-50$ later will fire with new pin lol
