View Full Version : Armalite?
What's the deal with these guys lately? I don't see much discussion about them anymore. Perhaps because they aren't the latest and greatest with all the newest bull**** tactical ted crap bolted all over them?
Has anyone bought one recently? How does it shoot?
Also, does anyone have a good source for buying them? I can get an M15A4 for $847. Anyone seen them cheaper?
Thanks!

I have a Armalite M15A2. I haven't read anything about Armalite in quite a while. It's funny, when I was in the market for a AR all I heard was ABC's. Now you never hear the A mentioned anymore.
Everyone has moved on to Bushmaster, RRA, and others. I have had my Armalite for several years now and don't believe I could get a better AR.
There was a short thread the other day and someone mentioned the quality of Armalite AR's has went down but I don't know this for a fact.
I might be the only person on Glock Talk that owns an Armalite!

I have no complaints with the Armalites but if I was going to spend $847. for a rifle it would'nt be an Armalite, it would be one of those & quote "latest and greatest with all the newest bull**** tactical ted crap bolted all over them" unquote.

Armalite is nothing in the AR realm. They are almost what you would call a bottom feeder. Plenty of better makers out there.

I don't know. Why not?
They just aren't making a very high quality product. What else can be said?

There must be a reason you think this. Kinda hard to put any weight on your opinion if you can't tell anyone why you feel how you feel.
Anyway, after looking around a bit it seems like the RRA Elite CAR is more what I'm looking for. I like the longer sight radius. The only thing I don't like is the goofy "carry" handle. That's easy to replace though.

Oh, you mean why do I think they suck? You didn't make it clear as to what you were asking. "Why" was a rather open ended question.
I wouldn't say they suck. I would just say, why get an Armalite when you can get a better gun for a better price somehwere else?
As far as the goofy "carry" handle issue, yes they are easy to replace, but they are actually better than a standard carry handle in my opinion. They have A2 sights as well as a rail to mount optics. It's perfect.
Do you or have you actually owned one or are you basing this on how they smell or something?
I'm really not trying to be combatative, but I'm looking for first-hand information and experience. I can read recycled BS on AR15.com if I want.

$847. is a lot of money in my opinion. If your going to spend it on a rifle, why not spend it on something thats proven. Again, i've never owned, shot nor know anyone who has had any dealings with Armalite whatsoever. So I am not knocking Armalite, I am just saying their are manufactures that are more well known and have been proven in the AR world that can be bought for the same price or less.

I remeber when Armalites were the heat, there were Colts, Armalites, and then Bushmasters. I remeber that Armalites had a better finish than the Bushmasters did. I dont know if armalite changed ownership ir anything but I know that they tended to push the AR-10 alot more than the AR-15, in the advertising that Ive seen. I know alot of SF guys in my area by AR-10's for a personal weapon. I know that their AR's were some of the first ones with camo finish as well.
I wonder if people shy away from Armalite, because they come out and say that they are not mil-spec. I think they are just being honest with the customer. Only thing that your going to get that is honest to god milspec is a United States Goverment Issue Colt, or FN made rifle. That is the standard far as our military goes. So why some manufactures may have the over all dimentions the same, there are not truely milspec. Not even the Colts. Even though the Colts are mangnafluxed and what not and other QC involved. There just not the same as a Military Weapon no mattter what.
I dont think anyone would be making a mistake by buying and Armalite, at all. They dont seem anymore expensive than the Bushmasters ive seen.

But at least Bushy uses 4150 steel.
My biggest problem with Armalite is that most people think they are the original AR company, but they really aren't.

I have had bad luck with this company. The Ar10 I purchased from them doubled (fired 2 rounds for 1 trigger pull) constantly. I sent it back to them twice they never did fix it. In the end they said it was my fault for not pulling the trigger vigeriusly. (thats a great marksmanship tip yank the trigger and hope it works).
I then purchased a KAC trigger for the gun and the doubling went away. No problems now. The accuracy was so so around 1.25 inches. The handguard seal broke. I ended up sending it to GA precision and had the rifle done up right. Now it shoots nice .5 inch groups without malfunction.
Then I purchased a AR18. It ran fine until it broke in half at the pivot point for the upper and lower recievers. If you go over to AR15.com and look in the armalite AR10 form you will see tons of posts aksing how to fix this and that with the posters trouble prone armalites. Sorry but stay away from Armalite.
Armalite is not even Armalite. The name was purchased by Eagle Arms as a marketing scheme.

The AR10 can be quite serviceable. Unfortunately, many buy it seeking SR-25 performance and end up spending more than the cost of one in their quest.
