View Full Version : Want a Bulgy. Where should I buy from?

Looking for one in excellent condition, and I don't mind spending a tad extra to get one. I saw a post (on here) a few days ago from SOG that was atrocious, so I am thinking of staying away from them. I wish Aimsurplus still had Maks, but it appears that is no longer the case. I am thinking 150-200 or so before S&H or FFL fees, although cheaper is fine too (of course) as long as I will get a decent gun. So any suggestions as to suppliers to buy from/ not buy from? I would rather get at least two mags with the gun, the cheezy surplus holsters are not necessary for me as I will probably be visiting hbe leatherworks for a rig. Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Just found a PERFECT condition Russian at a local gun store for $180! This is less than buying a Bulgy online after all the S&H and FFL fees. I am as happy as a frog on a log right now! This thing has either never been fired, or it was maintained excellently. I'm also happy to be giving my money to one of the local shops, as the owner has been very good to me in the past. I may post pics in a few hours as well.
well you can usually find a couple at gunshows

No good examples in my area, and the ones that are there are in crappy condition at horrible prices. Oh, and Da Law, your link does not work.
Yeah I know I screwed it up. You can still do the copy/paste route.
Or see if I did this one right.

Like I said if I screwed this one up Just copy and paste it to your browser.

This link will work, click on pistols but they don't show any Maks.

They are in Fort Worth. A couple months ago they only had a few Maks at the gun show. I didn't ask if that was all they had, but it looks like it was.
Some months back their internet price was $135. I called and said I was local and could I come to the store and get that price. They said No. I said you mean if I want to buy 2, 3 or 4 Maks at your store you won't sell them to me for the internet price. They said, No, that's just an internet price.
Their store price was $179 plus tax.
That didn't make sense to me, so I ordered a couple Maks from AIM. :)
jesse, Check the pawn shops to. A friend found a very nice Russian Mak for $100 and I recently found a very nice 380 for $179.
I clicked on my new link that I put in my last post above (Military Gun Supply) and it brought me right to a page displaying a Bularian Makarov in excellent condition for $139.95. They also have ones with what they call "extensive holster scuffing" for $129.95.
If the link still does not work for you I apologize. If you wish to contact them, here is their phone number: 817-457-6000

That one works for me.
The picture is the Russian Mak.
I'd pay the $139.
"extensive holster scuffing on slide" could look right bad.
jesse, if you call them see if you can pay for the gun and have it sent to your FFL dealer. If this is OK with your dealer and he will send them a copy of his FFL. He would have to do that anyhow if he ordered the gun.
If you order and pay for the gun all you should have to pay is the gun price, shipping and the dealer transfer fee.
This is an ongoing argument as to whether the dealer should collect tax.
The dealer that does my transfers only charges $15 and no tax. He says he never bought/owned the gun and is not selling it to me. All he's doing is following the federal law concerning the transfer of a gun that I already bought from the distributor.
On the Mak it doesn't save you too much but on a high dollar gun it would.

I checked AIM and did not see Maks listed. Is there a Mak drought right now? Regards, Richard ;f

I contacted them. They said they only have Polish ones in right now.
Ok...this sucks. I made contact and was told the same thing. I ddi not have the heart to tell them that the P-64 is not a Mak. Does anyone know of a dealer other than SOG that has Bulgy Maks?

You might try J&G in Arizona. Regards, Richard :D
I have two Bulgarian Makarovs and I bought them both at different gunshows. Because Mak condition can vary greatly, I wouldn't feel comfortable buying one sight unseen unless I knew/trusted the seller; I just wouldn't want to take a chance. From what I've read, the caution "Let the buyer beware", is wise advice if you buy a Mak online.
I had gone into Military Gun Supply a couple months ago and was really suprised when I was told they only had 2 maks. I looked at em and was less than impressed for the price and left them there.
I just bought one off Auction Arms,$141,(Bulgarian)in great shape.(Still in cosmoline.)I specified my state (Tx)on the search, bid the auction and picked it up direct. This is an option on Gunbroker also.
