View Full Version : Bob Tales
anyone out there have a Bobtail-gripped 1911 in 10mm? if so how do you like it? recoil control better/worse?
i like their feel but have never actually fired one and am curious.
awww c'mon G33 be bad..
i've seen not just the commander but also a chopped Delta which looked cool. extra-carryable. and i've fondled bobtail guns and found them a good fit for my hand but wasn't sure how they'd stack up under recoil. i tend to kind of cradle the gun with my weak hand and thought *maybe* the standard non-bobtail might be easier to support when the muzzle kicked up, but just can't be sure til i try one and don't know anyone local who has one.
this belongs to DanO over on 10mmTalk:

I really enjoy my bobtail Commander and it's my current carry piece. The only difference I've noticed with the "bobtail" is that it doesn't catch on clothing like a standard 1911 does. There's more muzzle flip than my 5" DW Patriot, but this is due to the shorter barrel and not the bobtail grip frame.

real pretty, Nordic..
i like the low-snag aspect too and have had it on my mind ever since i saw DanO's piece. i'm hashing out the details of a Delta project right now and am seriously considering this but am shy about it only because i've never shot one. always liked them, but can't help wondering why the bigger guns are never bobbed. might be something as simple as just not wanting the expense of retooling.
also wondering if an S&A magwell could be used with a bobbed MSH. don't see why not but never seen it done and i think i'll be going with one on my Delta.

I have a DW PT-CBob in 10MM and love it. As noted it has more "muzzle flip" but that's the shorter barrel, not the grip. The grip just feels right! I also have a Razorback and a Delta, but the CBob is my favorite.
Hope this helps!

yes it does, thanks!! you ol' Retailer, you ;)
i'm in procress of designing my dream Delta now, and though i want it to be carry-friendly, the top priority is gripability. i'll deal with being poked if what's poking me improves my shooting.
i hadn't even consdiered bobbing it til i saw the one(s) pictured above, but something about them just looked very ergonomic. i don't know the owner of the second one, but DanO, who owns the top one with the blackened stainless, is a LEO who carries it on duty and says that he, too, prefers the grip, saying it gives him better recoil control.
conversely i talked to a guy at the range yesterday who preferred standard grip, but he had pretty large hands. i have long fingers and had about the same "reach" as this guy but his "pawpads" were much larger than mine..
