Hey all, Am looking at optics for my M-4gery, http://www.houtsenterprises.com/product3157.html I know the military uses both the Aimpoint optics, and the ARMS 22M68 mount, was wondering if anyone here had any experience, or opinions one way or the other with these. PLEASE don't reccomend AR15.com as you need to wade thru too much B.S. to get an answer there, I prefer to lurk there from now on, and rely on the Cool Cats of Glocktalk for my questions now!
thanks Guys!

The Aimpoint is a sweet reddot. I love it.
My only recommendation is that you go with a LaRue mount. They are high quality and I think they are the best out there. They also are removed very easily.
If you have to have an Aimpoint then the LaRue M68 is the answer. The other alternative is the Eotech. Both are top choices. I would also suggest a good BUIS like the LMT or LaRue which are fixed. There are also some good flip up BUIS's.

Screw the fixed BUIS, that doesn't make it a "back-up" if it is always deployed.
Also, the ARMS mounts are the way to go in my opinion. I've got 3 Aimpoints, 3 ARMS mounts. Yeah, I guess I AM biased, but so be it. They work nicely, are easily deployed, and are high quality.
Anyway, I'll get off my :soap: box now.
I was out shooting with my new EOTech. Damn think fritzed out on me. I can see the value of getting used to co-witnessing.

I have had great luck with my Eotech. Just qualified with it again today. Shot 242 out of 250. Not my best but the Eotech makes it easy.

I had my ARMS #40 in the stowed position. Had to stop shooting to flip it up. Will probably leave it up from now on.
That's one of the two criticisms of the flip up sights. First, when you need them there will be a delay in deploying them and second, adding a hinge just increases the odds of something screwing up.

If the SHTF and theres no time to deploy the BUIS then use your optic like a giant ghost ring and aim through it uisng your front iron sight.
Another thing you can do is Rob Haught's stock over shoulder roll and index your shots from the barrel.
At room distance shooting it's not that hard to get COM shots using only the front sight without using the rear aperture. The key is having a good consistant cheekweld.;)
Lastly if your primary weapon goes TU then it may be time to transition to your secondary. If you don't have a secondary firearm then close in with the enemy and begin violently muzzle striking them in their sternum, neck and head areas until they cease to be a threat.
As far optics goes I prefer the EOTech for CQB. The Aimpoint is also a great choice.
I have both the ARMS #40a and the Troy Gen III BUIS and I prefer the Troy.
I like the Troy BUIS better because it requires a simple push up for deployment, it locks in the upright position, it's built like a tank and most importantly to me the large and small apertures are on the same plane.
