View Full Version : Need lube pointers ... PLEASE
Went out with a friend to shoot my AR. After about 150 rounds the thing started jamming on every round. My friend told me that it's probably because there was no oil or whatever else you use to lube these thing up with. Of course I have to experience with lubing an AR because I own a Glock and don't do it to that bad boy.
So, what do I do, and what should I use. Please give me any pointers and ideas. Thanks.

Clean and lube per the -10: HERE (http://www.subguns.com/biggerhammer/manuals/pdfs/tm9-1005-319-10.pdf)
If that doesn't work, run this troubleshooting checklist: HERE (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=66&t=210213)
I'll tell you what I do.
I disassemble the bolt carrier.
Take the bolt and clean it up good with hoppes or whatever you have.
I usually take apart the extractor after every session just to inspect and verify functionality.
Clean out the firing pin channel. Take care not to leave any debris in there from a qtip or something. I then oil the extractor pin and re-assemble the extractor. I then coat the gas rings with a film of oil. Clean out the bolt and the channel the cam pin pivots in. Clean the cam pin. Apply a light film of oil to the channel the cam pin rides in. Re-assemble the bolt and install into the bolt carrier.
I then run a drop of oil down each of the 4 rails on the bolt carrier. Slide the bolt carrier into the upper receiver and close it up. Cycle the bolt carrier a few times to distribute the oil on the rails.
Make sure you clean up the firing pin as well as the bore (I use a bore snake)
Check the lugs in the barrel extension for cleanliness also. Clean as needed.
DO NOT forget the install the cam pin when reassembling the bolt carrier.
That's it. I probably forgot something which I'm sure someone will call me on but that's the gist of it.

Here's my advice. Lube it up, but don't drench it. It only needs a light coating.
a new rifle may need more lube than a broken in one, i use clp or lsa and clean/lube after every shooting session - anywhere between 100-500 rds/session

That link asked for a pwd - any chance you can attach it here or host it, or email it to me?

Look for where you have wear marks on your bolt carrier, that's a good place to lube as well. Make sure you clean inside the carrier where they bolt is sliding, and the hole where the bolt cam goes - hard to get to but gets dirty.

FP10 is flawless for me. Stick with an oil, no grease.

I use Mobil-1 synthetic motor oil (5W30) to lube my AR… put 900+ rounds of dirty Wolf ammo through it in less then 9 hours at a recent carbine class… never cleaned it the whole time & she ran flawlessly the whole time… in fact I still haven’t cleaned it sense that class & I’ve put another 300+ through her… no problem… the Mobil-1 is STILL present in my AR where I put it 1,200+ rounds ago!
