View Full Version : Help w/G30 and 36
New guy here...bought a NIB G27 3 wks ago for CCW and love it. Now I have the fever for another heater. Thought about the G33, but I can't seperate the facts from the envy by the 9mil owner comments. The cost of a box of target loads made up my mind for me - forget the 357, I want a big dawg now.
So, for CCW purposes, what's the differences in the 30 and 36? Thanks for your help.
G36: little thinner, little lighter, bit snappier recoil, and only 6+1 with no other choice of mags.
G30: bit thicker, bit heavier (not much), easy-to-manage recoil, 9+1 with flush-mount mags, 10+1 with mags you can put your pinky on, and 13+1 with G21 mags.
I love my G30... I can carry 24 rounds of .45 ACP on me wherever I go... (10+1 in the gun, and a 13-round spare mag on my belt)
If your G27 was made after the 1998 introduction of the G33, you can just drop in a G33 barrel and be able to shoot 357Sig. On the G30/G36 question, it really is a matter of personal preference. Try them both and see how you feel about them. I chose between the 2 and picked the G36. The G36 is not for everyone and I like the fact that it is unique among the Glock models in that it doesn't share platform with any other Glock model. ;)
Thanks for the info. My 27 was made this year and I was aware you could swap out the barrel to use 357sig. However, I maintain two residences in different states and fly each weekend - I try never to check luggage so that rules out traveling with it, so I want another to have one in both locations.
My main concern is with how much different in physical size the 30 nad 36 are compared to my 27. The 27 is sized perfect for my liking, and I don't want to go any larger. I'm going to my local gun shop tomorrow and will check it out. Rob99rt answered my other concern about recoil.
Thanks again.
The G30 is a bit thicker/bigger then a 27. I have a 19 and a 30 and while the 19 fits my g/fs hand great, the 30 is very uncomfortable for her. I think the 36 feels great, alot like the 19 probably in over all diameter in the grip, i picked up the 30 just cause i got a good deal on it (and its a good gun)
At the range yesterday, I fired 8 rounds thru a G30...after 50 rnds in my 27. I thought there was a good bit less snap with the 30 than my 27, and had I compared the two last month, I'd own a 30 instead of a 27.
The G36 would fall in between. I have a G32 that I drop a G23 barrel to shoot 40S&W and find it a tad snappier than my G36. I would imagine that the G27 would be snappier than the compact 40S&W.
