View Full Version : "Tricking" out your Glock

'Just curious as to what modifications others have done to get their Glock shooting in a style or fashion they enjoy.
I'm currently having my trigger connector replaced with a 3.5lb pull. The stock trigger-pull is very heavy, probably about 6lbs. Also having a set-screw put in to take off the deadfall on the pull. The ramp's getting smoothed and lubed as well as the end of the barrel crowned.
Just saying that much, I know I'll get some input. I'm looking for peoples' two cents.

I had no problems with my gun out of the box. I'll attribute the lack of being able to hit a 10" target at 10 yards to my very large lack of knowing how to handle a weapon.
However, after taking my ccw class, I signifcantly improved, and then I decided to start tinkering. First I added a hogue grip. Although I don't have big hands, this seemed to let the gun fill my hand better and I was able to control it easier. I think this aided in reducing my groups. Second I did a 3.5# scherer connector and polished the internals. I found that I loved this trigger pull, and it turned out to be nice and crisp with a sharp break. I didn't have more than a week later that I added some ameriglo operator's, so I didn't have time to try out the trigger job with the stock sights, but with the new sights, and the aforementioned additions, and with a lot of practice at the range, I am nailing sub 4" groups at 10 yards standing, and 2" groups off the bench with my reloads.
I know the practice also helped improve my groups, but I also have to say that the mods I did also contributed.
Btw, this is on my 3rd gen G23. :) This is my carry piece, so I don't see myself modding it any further than what i've done.

All I do is a slightly modified .25 trigger job with a 3.5# connector, decent steel night sights and skate board tape on the grip.
About 200,000 rounds on a couple G17's using these simple mods.
Note that these are practice and competition pistols, not for carry. My carry pistol (G19) has had a little trigger polishing, still has the original 5# connector and wears AO Big Dot sights.

My standard few:
Hogue handall
Heinie straight 8 night sights
Wolff non-captured steel guide rod and full compliment of springs
3.5# Scherer connector and internals polish job
My G30 sports:
A 3.5# connector;
A G21 smooth trigger;
A full polish of the internals with Flitz;
And a Pearce grip extension on each 10 rnd mag.
That's it, though a set of Tritium sights has always been on the "To Buy" list somewhere...
BTW, if the barrel crowning costs more than $50 or so, you might be better off just getting an aftermarket barrel for it.
My carry 23
Highly polished 3.5 connector
reduce power trigger spring
15lb recoil spring
trijicon adj night sights
all my comp guns have
KKM barrels
1.75lb triggers
13lb recoil spring
tungston guide rod
dawson FO adj sights
stippled grips

fastfvr: I'm trying not to do any aftermarket parts whatsoever.
I just got the gun back today. Cost me $50 for polish job, 3.5# connector, crowning, and a set-screw for the trigger deadfall. Tried it out immediately as he handed it to me. First three rounds were shot within 2 seconds and grouped within three inches dead center in the badguy's head! The difference in smoothness and accuracy (on my end) is superb. Better trigger pull for me and cleaner shots. I just have to get used to the different trigger pull.
For you newbie shooters who may read this, I highly recommend getting/doing a polish job to your gun. ;J

You paid $49.75 too much for a $.25 trigger job. But seriously, that's the way to go. I like the Scherer 3.5 connector. Is the trigger over travel stop a custom job or an available part? I have a couple Lone Wolf ones and I think they're great. It is do it yourself kind of work though.

T. Harless:
The extra $49.75 was for the crowning, extra polishing of parts, the GLOCK 3.5# connector part, and the set-screw.
The set-screw was a total custom job. He drilled a hole at the top of the backstrap diagonally going up and in, and inserted a tiny tiny allen screw as a stopper.

I was just playing about the $49.75. On the over travel, you can adjust it from outside the backstrap? Wow.

Yes and no. The access point had to be drilled at the top and little to the side of the backstrap. From there the screw was inserted (pretty far) in and acts as a buffer to the trigger.

The last four G19s I have owned have been set up the same way:
-3.5 connector
-Nightsites (Heinie Straight eights currently, formerly Trijicons)
-Wolff recoil spring and guide rod. (non-captured)
-G17 smooth trigger
I set my Dad's up identically to mine, but he didn't like the "mushy take up" (his words). He wanted a more solid and definate feel to the trigger let off, so I installed a NY-1 spring with the 3.5 pound disconnector. I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, but I have to admit that I like the way it feels. The take up is more definate and the let off is crisp. The reset feels good as well. After I put a few hundred rounds through it, I might change mine over as well.
I use my G35 for competition... I am by no means very mechanical but I did all of the stuff myself.
$0.25 polish using simchrome

Nice! That's quite a bit of modification on your own.
I'll plan on getting a 2nd handgun in a couple years and spending more effort modifying that. I don't want to do too much right now to my 23 as it's going to be a carry.

truculent,
What part of the trigger bar does the screw contact?
