View Full Version : Broken slide stops on G27?
I have a co-worker who told me he's broken two slide lock levers on his G27. He said they are not breaking at the point of contact with the slide, but rather at or near the spring? Anyone experience this kind of problem. He said approx 2K rounds have been fired through his G27.
I guess anything can break, but I've never seen a broken slide stop lever.
I'm a Glock armor and I've seen a lot of slide stops break at the point where they contact the slide on our department's G22's. That constant impact of the slide against what is basically sheet metal is no big surprise. What concerns me is the breakage at the spring on the G27. The slide spring tension in a G27 is greater than a standard G22, G23 or G35 due to it's slide mass being less. I wonder if that is contributing to this breakage?

Clearly, you know Glocks but could there be a possibility that your co-worker meant his slide lock rather than the slide stop? Both parts utilize a spring and are often confused in conversation. Just checking because I haven't heard of such breakages before, not that they couldn't occur of course.
My bad...the part in question is the Slide Lock.

I was almost hoping that was the case because otherwise it was going to be a head scratcher for me at least. Anyway, one possibility for repeated broken slide locks might be using very high powered ammo. I've shot some 155's that recoiled like a beast. Another reason could be the addition of a higher weight recoil setup so you might ask him if he's aware of any such change. I must agree, it does seem a bit strange for them to be breaking down toward the spring. Seems like they mostly break along the ridge at the top. Do you know if he's using a stock barrel?
He principally shoots our department issued ammo, Remington 180gr JHP and his G27 is straight stock, no aftermarket parts. I plan on getting together with him to see one of the slide locks he's broken. It could be we just have a bad lot of slide locks in stock?

Almost starting to sound like a possibility. Perhaps a lower carbon batch of steel came through the line, lowering the tensile strength of the finished parts. Could be function related, but with a full stock setup and Remington ammo, it seems somewhat less likely. May as well check the step on the barrel lug where it engages the stop though to make sure there's no abnormalities that might explain more force being exerted.
