View Full Version : Glock 30 magazine issue
New member to Glocktalk, been shooting Glocks for a while and recently purchased my new green G30 with six new 10rd. magazines all same generation.
Excellent pistol to shoot, accurate and I can handle the recoil, no bobbles, feeding problems except for trying to get a full 10rds. of 45ACP into the standard Glock G30 magazine.
I function tested all six 10 rounders this week and they fed and seated ok, but getting that tenth round into the magazine is difficult, and sometimes the same magazine I loaded ten into will not take a tenth round the next time I load it.
Is there any tip or help I can get from you more experienced G30 Glockers that will help me to get a full ten rounds in each magazine?...TIA, rgds, redclay 8/19
Load them all up to 10 and let them sit in a drawer for a while (well, except for the pair you keep on you while you're using it for CCW). That will help pull a little tension out of the springs. I had to use the loading tool to get number 10 in my new mags for a while (month to 6 weeks), but now it's no problem to simply using my thumb to press them in.

when the G30 was first out, I recall a few saying to pull out the followers and clip a slight piece off of the follower legs to ease the tension on the tenth round.

This has always been an issue with the "Dogs". The magazines need to loosen a bit. rob99rt has given you the solution. Load the mags and let them sit awhile. I have 6 mags for mine and after "load and sit" they work fine. NICE damn gun! Enjoy it. BTW it eats almost anything (not like my Walther)
Appreciate the tips from you all....the timing of the solution is just right because I dropped off the slides for my new 30 and 36 (yes, I got one of those too, but no problems at all with it) at the local gunsmith for meprolight night sights to be installed...
It will be a week or two and plenty of time to load up the six magazines with USGI .45 ball and let them sit....
At first I thought it might be a slight difference in the size of the brass casings going from reloads to GI ball that made the difficulty, but it shouldn't be enough to cause the tenth round problem...
Again, thanks for the info and perspective from my fellow glockers...rgds, redclay 8/20

It has been my understanding, and experience with my G30, that the BEST way to break in new magazines is to...
1)Load them up to 6~8
2)Unload them
3)Repeat
Storing your magazines loaded to the top will not give the springs the workout that said process will provide. After the springs soften up, you may still need to slap in a fully loaded magazine with more force than you woould with other Glocks if your slide is locked back...it's all a tiny price to pay for such a powerful round in a small yet extremely reliable pistol:)

I shaved my followers. Same result and still reliable.
I would sand the followers before cutting off anything. I even had the 10th round pop out of the mag. The lips of the mag spread apart from the pressure of the spring and out she popped. With use it will get better. At least we are not posting about things like this damn gun wont.......

red, listen to the others...load 'em and leave 'em for a while and unload and repeat.. as for this...the timing of the solution is just right because I dropped off the slides for my new 30 and 36 (yes, I got one of those too, but no problems at all with it) at the local gunsmith for meprolight night sights to be installed... Is your Gunsmith blind? all jokes aside ;i two weeks is a awful long time to have sites installed. My guys by me do it in ummm 10 minutes or if they are busy 1day at the most. any way take care the 30 is a great gun.. it was my first glock and ill never sell or trade it

Had the same problem with the mags for my g30. I stuffed them with 9 rounds each and let them sit. After a few months that 10th round was finally able to squeeze in there. I have 5 mags total, all bought at the same time, and there are still 2 that will only hold nine.
For the Glocker above who noted the leisure with which I am treating the installation of night sights on my two new Glocks, you don't know the whole story:
I usually ask the gunsmith/owner of the shop I buy my new Glocks from install them in the 5-10mins. onsite it takes to fill out my paperwork there and his only caveat was not to shoot the gun for 24 hrs. so the cement would dry and firm up on the newly installed sights.
But life intervened and the gunshop owner/gunsmith suffered a heart attack recently and has had limited access to his shop...a secondary gunsmith who comes in once a week to pick up firearms for repair, etc. can do the job ok, but I it takes longer that way....
Sometimes patience, in our rush-out-and-get-it-now spoiled society is preferred to badgering someone that cannot for reasons beyond his control perform to former levels. I will still give my local gunshop my business, but I have to change my strategy and timing for buying and having work done there on my firearms.
Besides - my wife and I can get along OK with our other numerous night-sighted Glocks in the interim. Appreciate your post and just wanted to clear that point up....One other thing - a bargain is a good thing, but I urge all of you all to support your local retail stocking gunshop dealers as you can so they will not go out of business - we are losing too many gun shops these days and there are very few new ones opening up....rgds, redclay 8/27

I was in no way badgering your gunsmith..IF you post that it takes 2 weeks to do a 15min job people are going to wonder. I am very familiar with Cardiac issues as I am a nurse working on a cardiac intervention unit. I understand what goes into recovering myocardial infarction ie. Heart attack
I will still give my local gunshop my business, As I will continue to do so too
Not trying to stir the pot here, but wanted to clear up things from my point. On a lighter note. Enjoy the 30 it is a great gun. hope all is well with your GS and I send my regards.
FLGlock30, appreciate the reply....I have found that it is very easy to say too much and not get around to the point, esp. on gun boards...hence the reason for my not giving out all the details....
Picked up the 30 and 36 slides friday and put them back on their frames today (saturday) and I am very glad to have them home and ready for duty again...will go and break them in further when my wife and I go shooting on Labor Day.....rgds, redclay 9/3

letting loaded mags sit for awhile to help with the spring so you can get all 10 rnd in a 10rd mag or 9 in 9 is a great thing todo
as well right before putting that last round in grab the magazine with your hand like you would grab a ice cream cone... then take your other hand open it up palm up... slap the magazine base on the palm of your hand 2-3 times... to get the bullets to settle in the magazine just a bit
i found with these two techniques i have been able to get all mags to full capacity at which when I first owned the mags was unable to achieve
