Hey guys i am thinking of getting a s&w 627 v-comp (standard 357 Mag) and then getting the cylinder rechambered so i can shoot 38 super. Is this all that would need to be done or would i need to get a new barrel as well?? I know that S&W made some 627 models in 38 super but i dont like the black cylider or the barrel on these models. Also i found a cylinder assembly for the 627 on brownells.com. Is it possible for me to just send that cylinder to my gunsmith for rechambering in 38 SUPER and then shoot 38spl/357mag out of the factory original. I guess what i am really asking is can i have one gun and shoot all three calibers. My thinking is that if i have two different cylinders: one in 38 super and one in 38spl/357 mag i can simply switch out the cylinders as long as i keep the factory barrel the same. Can you shoot 357 mag out of a barrel that has been turned back .001 of an inch to shoot 38 super?? i know its a lot but i thank you in advance for your help
Different barrel diameter for .355" vs. .357" bullets.

For years, many IPSC shooters used .357 bullets in Supers. No problem on bullet diameter. Have you tried to shoot super from it WITHOUT changing anything ? This works in more guns than you might think. Ever hear of a "Medusa" revolver ? They had a funny extractor setup & will shoot just about anything in a .355"- .358" bullet caliber as long as it has a (basicly) straight wall case.
Try your S&W before you change anything.

After reading UAs interesting post (I didn't realize that 38 Super is larger diameter at the case mouth than 357/38 spl) I tried some 38Super in my GP100--they won't chamber. I sized 38 super brass with a 357 sizer die and seated 147 XTP and 115 and 124 jacketed. They will barely chamber but the ejector star won't pop 'em out.
A fellow games player has a Smith 38 Super revolver that uses moon clips. So if you talk to a gunsmith about reaming out the chambers of a 357, better ask about fitting moon clips also.
Or look around for a 38 Super revolver. Smith made a few.

The other gunsmith at D&J Guns (Scott) has a S&W mod 27 that will work just fine with Super. Probably just a gun to gun tolerance thing.
Maybe you can get by with just having a super chambering reamer dropped into the cyl. Probably won't take more than a few thou out.
