Hey guys, it's me again. The technology ignoramus.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 notebook. It seems that recently it has been running very warm, and that the fan is always on full blast. Sometimes, when running a programs (such as an interactive study tool by Kaplan), it gets so warm that it shuts down.

What can I do to get it cooled down and to optimum operating temps? Please remember, I am a novice when it comes to computers.

BTW, I installed HDD Life pro, and about the lowest temp on my hard drive I have seen is 123F or 52C.

Many thanks in advance!!!

Those Dell notebooks have a problem of getting full of dust and overheating.A good cleaning should take care of it.

There was also something about not using the latest video drivers because that causes problems with the power management.Normally noted by the screen not coming back on after closing.

Great...I will try that first. Do I need to physically remove the bottom cover to get at the fan, or can I simply spray some compressed air into where the fan housing is?

Give the air a try first. For taking the case open this might help.

I rarely carry my laptop around, it sits on my table most of the time. A computer "geek" friend of mine said that heat was the worst enemy to battery life.

I took the battery out and just use the power cord. I also bought one of those "fan platform thingies" that my computer sits on. So far my computer has had no heat problems. I think I only paid $20 for the platform.
