My first handgun purchase was a Glock 17. Back then it was the "new" model, nowadays it is just a second gen.
Anyway, I have been looking around a bit but I wanted to start this thread because I have a few detailed questions that may be judgement calls.
This weapon dates back to when I didn't really track how many rounds I sent down the pipe, so I can only guess at +/- 5k rounds through it. Is there anything I should be watching at this point? I haven't done a thing to this weapon besides basic care and feeding, oh and a Hogue hand-all. It has never let me down but I want to make sure I am keeping my end of the bargain by doing some PM if it needs it.
I do have one concern in particular. The breech face has a few gouges in it. They are vertical in orientation and to me, it doesn't look like the barrel is doing it. If it would help, I can post a pic or two, just let me know. Is this normal?
Also, the slide release has a bit of play in it. When it engages the slide, it will move forward maybe 1/16th of an inch. That may be an exaggeration but it seems like quite a bit to me.
Should I be worried about these issues? Do I need to find a good gunsmith? Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks for any advice,
James
