Been shooting a G39 and it's filthy even after 20-30 rounds. Have been lubing per Glock then wiping some off the side rails and the locking cam. Don't have any .45 acp's with me but i don't recall them being any dirtier then my other firearms. The ramp, chamber, and barrel look like a coating of oil coated with residue which is not the case! Have been shooting the G39 along with a G19 and a G23 with a .357 SIG barrel and they both are very clean after 50-70 rounds. Ammo has been Gold Dots (not many, too expensive), lawmen, and winchester hollow points. Wondering if anyone else has noticed their GAP's dirtier then other calibers.
I have noticed an exceptionally dirty G38 when I shoot the speer Lawman FMJ at the range. Maybe it is the manufacture. I never shot off enough of the JHP to know if their is a difference.

In my experience, the 200gr and 230gr produce much more dirt then the lighter loads. It takes quite bang to push bullets at thowse weights up to respectable velocities, and it takes lots of powder to produce that bang.
My G37 is always covered in soot up front after 50-75 rounds. I have learned to overlook it until cleaning time.

Will be back home middle of Sept. Will shoot GAP and ACP together and see what the results show. Will also mike the chambers for fit. I have a high end Kimber and a low end PT145.

I have also noticed Speer 45GAP to be the dirtiest 45GAP ammo. I have also gotten some yellow flecks sprayed on me when shooting it. I asked Speer about it and they said they did not know what I was talking about. I think it is one of those gun powder identifiers that some companies put in their powder, but I haven't disassembled a round to check.
Agreed. I had two boxes of the Speer Lawman 200gr when I bought my G37 and found them dirty. Winchester 230gr FMJ is fairly dirty too, though. That said, I recently ordered a case of the Lawman since I had yet another failure to fire with the Winchester.

I am also finding a lot of the yellow flecks especially along the rails but also a lot up at the muzzle end of the slide. I thought they were just unburned powder(i don't reload so don't know what the different powders look like). This last time out was the first Winchester I'd shot and the dirt and flecks were there before.

I've been shooting WWB 230 gr. FMJ and JHP, and find that it is about the same in "dirtiness" as WWB .45 AUTO. I think Speer ammo is just dirty in this caliber. .45's are always pretty dirty compared to 9mm and .40 S&W, due to the amount of powder in the load.
As far as availability, I bought 2 cases of .230 gr. WWB in the FMJ and JHP at Gander Mountain for range use, at about $12.00 per 50. For whatever reason, GAP ammo is pretty readily available around here...and about the same price as comparable .45 AUTO ammo.
I'll vote for Federal Eagle 185gr ammo being nasty! I'll put just 50 rounds thru my XD45 before I start to freak out because of the grime......oh well.

I shot some WW 230gr. hardball ammo today. I had a mag laying on the tarp I was using to catch brass. When I had shot about 75 rounds I noticed that it was covered in yellow specks.

I used to only see it with Speer ammo. But now, I am beginning to think that all we are seeing is some unburnt or partially burnt powder. I have begun noticing it in other brands of ammo besides Speer also.
So, has anyone figured out why .45 GAP is so dirty? I have no "real" problem with it; it just bothers the hell out of me. Have you found any that is fairly clean, or the cleanest of them?
Most factory ammo is dirty. I reload with Accurate Arms powder #5 and it is exceptionally clean.
